A 4 year old girl died in December from an overdose of medication that was prescibed by a doctor for ADHD and bi-polar disorder. The parents have been arrested for murder of their child, they allegedly gave the child more medication than was prescribed. My question is, how in the world was the doctor even able to diagnose a 2 year old with those disorders? I mean, 2 year olds are just learning to talk! Isn't every 2 year old pretty much happy one minute and mad the next? Don't they all have short attention spans and aren't they all hyper? I understand that some people truly need medicine for certain disorders, but don't you think that 2 years old is a little early?

Sorry to keep adding, but on the wbztv.com website there is an article that says the psychiatrist that prescribed the medicine to the girl is Dr. Kayoko Kifuji and she has agreed to stop practicing medicine until the case is resolved.

This story is sad. I do not think that a child that young should be on medication for ADHD or bi-polar. It is wrong. My son is 4 yrs old and there are good days and bad days. Who is to say whether or not the child is acting "normal" or not. A young child does not have a large attention span and should not be required to sit still for a long period of time. I keep hearing more and more about 4 yrs old on medication for ADHD and i think it is a crock of sh#t! My sons pre-school teacher a year ago said that my boy doesn't sit still when he is supposted to and when I told my pediatrician she laughed and said he is too young to sit there for more than 10 minutes. The parents of these children need to understand that some doctors are drug happy and to not agree with the diagnosis or ADHD or bi-polar disorder. They are still babies and will be bad sometimes, they like to jump off furniture and run around and be hyper, they can't sit still for long times, they may throw a temper tantrum and then be laughing and happy the next minute...they are babies!

That is just so sick !
I think the doctor who diagnosed the child should be arrested
along with the parents!
What a bunch of crock ! I have 2 kids and their characters are
completely different. When my 10 yr old was about 2 - 3 yrs old,she hardly had any attention span. Nothing held her interest for longer than a couple of minutes !
She is doing wonderful in school and the teachers are always telling me how she helps the other students, after she finishes her own work in class. She even volunteers to supervise the kindergarten children during recess. She is her own person and I love her for who she is ! Independant, loving, and needs to keep busy.
I would love to know how old the parents are ! They deserve whatever they get! And that doctor should have his license taken away !

Oh goodness. Two year olds are going to hit, bite, throw things and do other such naughty things. It's a phase that they all go through and with some consistant discipline (like mini-time outs), they learn that those naughty behaviors are unacceptable. A two year old's vocabulary is just starting to expand and sometimes they don't always have the words to express how they feel. The only way to show their emotion is by acting out. It's completely normal. If you or your ex are concerned about his behavior then your child should be brought to the pediatrician to be evaluated. If the pedi feels more is needed, he/she will point you in the right direction....but in no way should some bimbo friend of your ex's wife be giving any evaluation of any sort. She has no right, no place....Just my opinion....and if that were ME, I'd be freakin' Pissed!

I do think that some doctors are a tad bit pill happy. I would think 2yrs is little young for bi-polar and adhd. Poor kid. May she rest in peace.

Gross medical negligence on everyone's part. Am going to find this story now. I hope they all go down for premeditated murder.
Add: Just read it, no mention that all the drugs were prescribed to the child.
Add: Read the link you mentioned (CNN is slow) and stand by my original statement. Why the thumbs down????
