I have 2 female 13 week old kittens. They both had a head cold about a month and a half ago. The little one has been fine and the cold is gone. The bigger one is just getting over the cold. Now the little one I noticed yesterday that her eye was watery and bloodshot and the rim around the eye is a little swollen and pinkish.
Today, there is some yellowish fluid draining from it, which I assume is mucus. It's also still a little swollen and bloodshot and watery. I looked multiple times and it doesn't look like it got scratched by anything. Can anyone give me some ideas on what she may have? If it's bad enough, I will set up an appointment with their vet. Thanks!

Any animal with an eye problem needs a tube of boric acid ointment, and that is what most vets prescribe. Boric acid ointment's very inexpensive. Boric also be used on human eyes. Aspirin kills kittens & cats even baby Aspirin !

It's bad enough, they need to go to a Vet ASAP.
Sounds very much like an Upper Respiratory Infection and you'll need medication from a Vet to treat it.
A URI is serious in any cat, but even more so in a young kitten.

It's also possible that they have been exposed to the Feline Herpes Virus...most kittens are, some develop an immunity to it and others don't...the virus itself won't kill them but the underlying infections they can get during an outbreak may...especially since they are so young.

Cats with Feline Herpes can live long happy lives, I have two cats that have the virus and they are doing great...both 6 years old...one cat has had two outbreaks and the other has only had one.

Regardless of what the actual problem is, they should be seen by a Vet now!

Good luck, I hope the kittens get better soon.

There is a situation that cats can get known as kitty herpes virus. It results the eyes making them runny and gooey. I have one cat who has this. He received it at the same time he was once within the animal refuge. It may be very contagous even though my different cat didn't get it. You must take your kitty to the vet and allow them to verify what the situation is. This does now not depart, however many times it's bigger than different instances. There are drops and lotions the vet can deliver you. GOOD LUCK!

Hi, my adopted girl cat had the same problem a little over a year ago. Just go to the vet and they'll give you a tiny tube of medicine. You put it on both of your kitten's eyes (so it doesn't spread to the other) and your baby should be fine in a couple of days.

Sounds like the "cold" transfered to her eye. It is common with kittens. Call your vet and ask for polybacimix or bacitracin eye ointment. It will clean the infection in a day or two.

It's probably conjuctivitis (pink eye). The vet will give you ointment. Better to take them now or they'll both end up with it, it's highly contagious.

Eye infection...it's a virus the vet can give you medication to put in it's eye, if you don't treat it quickly, your other cats will get it too!
