Shes very important to you then dont let her leave your eyesight until she gets big enough for a harness, they do make them in xsmall though so look for those, and they dont hurt them

You need to get a harness, and put that on her. I would watch her at all times. She is likely to get hurt or stolen by running off. My first Chihuahua got stolen right out of my yard. My neighbor saw them take my dog, and she yelled. We both tried to get to the car, but the guy got in his car and was gone before we could get to him. The cops would not do much since we could not get the license plate number, because it was in the rear window, and you couldn't read it. This is a true story and my family and I was horrible upset for a long time about it. We all loved that little dog. I have 2 Chihuahuas now, and they are not allowed outside unless someone is with them, ever. They use the puppy pads, and we walk them. I also have my dogs microchipped. It is really upsetting tothink something that small could have brought my first Chi home. You need to make sure your pup does not wonder off, because next time you may not be so lucky. You should be able to find a harness that will work even if you have to get a ferret harness, and then get a bigger size when your pup grows a little. Do not let your dog out by itself. They are a very popular breed right now, and people really do steal dogs. If they can't pay for their own dogs do you think they have the money to care for your dog they stole. Please watch your little pup. Good Luck.

Um, well...you don't leave too many options. If she's too small for a leash (are you SURE about that????), and apparently there isn't a fenced in area where she can safely play, AND she's too fast for you to keep up with, then that leaves only one option I can think of:

Keep her indoors, and teach her to use the little blue potty pads for dogs. That would be much better than the alternative - losing her forever by getting lost or run over by a car.

You may think she is too small, but get a ferret harness and put her on a small retractible leash (make sure it is for small breeds). Because she is small and fast you need to make sure that she is going to stay right by you until you know that she's not going to run.

If she is small, and going to get bigger, then she is a puppy....which means you have not yet taught her to stay by you. This is a trained behavior, not something they are born to do. After you have taught her her name, to come, sit and stay, start taking her outside with a long leash tied to your JEANS, not in your hand. Let her think she is off leash, and gently correct her when she wanders too far. It takes time!

I had a small chihuahua ans I had to buy her collars in the cat and ferret section at the pet store. They have ferret harnesses, and they work. You will have to get a longer leash. You can get some good bedding in that section also...

you can use a leash if you use it bacwards without a collar. Put the end through the handle then put around the dogs neck and tighten. you can also buy extra small collars for dogs this size at petsmart.

Put a harness on her and then attach the leash to the harness

find a leash that DOES fit her. or don't let her out into an insecure area. and start training her for recall.

if she gets out and something happens to her, or she does something, you will be responsible for it, for not being able to control your dog. no matter how small.

use a harness that goes around the whole body rather than just the neck like a collar does.
they are available quite readily.
