I'm doing a report for school on animal rights and laws, and I need to know what a person who killed/abused/ect. a cat/dog/ect. would be setenced to.

Note; I AM NOT GOING TO KILL A CAT.

In our area you get charged with misdemeanor abuse, sometimes it can be more (depending on the situation).

Sentencing is usually NOT fitting to the crime. Offenders here get fined $500 and have to do either community service or up to 90 days in jail.

SO not right for most of the animal abuse out there, IMO.

Good luck on the report!

It depends on where you live.
Where I am you'd get a fine of $500 per animal and up to 2 years in jail.

Check with you're local humane society or animal shelter.
They would know the laws in your area since they deal with the sick people who abuse animals everyday.

There are websites about animal hoarding/puppy mills and there was a man who was found with 250 dead and diseased dogs and he got a $500 fine, which didn't even cover the cost of disposing of the carcasses and housing and treating all of the dogs rescued. Jail sentences are rarities. Prepare to be disgusted at the leniency when you do your research. It's a case of "small victim, small sentence."

Not that I know for sure, but I'm an Animal Planet junkie and I watched most of the show with animal cops, most of the time they get 3 months jail time and $2,000 fine. But I have not seen cases that they kill animal intentionally, usually the animals were dead because of neglect (starve to death etc). So, I'd assume the punishment for killing animal on purpose is worse than that.

It depends on what area you live in. I live in Ireland so our laws would be different here. I personally think the sentance should be the same for killing an animal as it is for killing a human. We are all Gods creatures after all. Good luck in school.

Eternal damnation in burning hell fire. How about losing total respect for yourself? There are no clear-cut laws on this, each case is different to specific areas. Killing animals is one of the 14 signs of a serial killer, that's an interesting fact to keep in mind.
