It depends. Depression is a complex beast, and so you may or may not be able to tackle it alone. There is a difference between being depressed and having depression, so your first step is to figure out which of those you are. If you're depressed, time, meditation, and a good support network will help. However, if you have clinical depression, you may have a chemical imbalance that requires medication or it may stem from something more serious. The National Institute of Medical Health has more information on depression at http://www.nimh.nih.gov/healthinformation/depressionmenu.cfm

Your first step, in my opinion, is to go talk to a psychologist. They can help you figure out what's really going on and can refer you to a medical doctor (a psychiatrist) if needed.

Firstly, you should see a doctor as soon as possible, to find out whether you are suffering from clinical depression, which has a physical cause, and may require medication, but in the meantime, view: www.depression.com/- and the blogs of Shan Eris on "tackling depression" at www.myspace.com and afterwards type in: "depression" in the bar near the top of the webpage. Google and Wikipedia should have links, too. Consider joining a support group, either in person, or online at Myspace; groups. Yahoo may have them, too. Check your library for modern books on the subject.

first u should get an opinion from a psychiatrist, or mental health professional as to what type of depression you have. there are two types of depression. one is organic, meaning the brain is not functioning properly, causing depression. the other is cognitive, or the way you think, that can cause depression. organic depression is treated with medication, and cognitive depression is treated with therapy, along with exercise, good eating and sleeping habits. you can also get help from the Internet on depression, from self help groups that are free. be care full tho, of products that claim will help your depression.

I am not sure of your question "to get off" from it. I you are talking about a sexual problem stemming from taking antidepressants, it usually helps to not take a pill about 24 hours before sex so your "parts" cooperate. If you are talking about getting off antidepressants all together, you need to be weened off very slowly and monitored. I you are depressed, and need an antidepressant, see your doctor. Effexor seems to be a good choice.
