They are either selfish, or they enjoy having control over others, or they are so self-absorbed that they are oblivious. 3 choices, all are some variety of evil. Not mass-murderer evil or Stephen-King-movie evil, just the ordinary, garden-variety evil that insidiously creeps into people's hearts and kills off their love and concern for other people.

btw--when I am that driver and other drivers behind me indicate in some way their desire to pass (honking horn, flashing lights, tailgating, trying to pass), I pull over and let them go by. They obviously are in a bigger hurry than I am and I have no right to hold them up. I'm not holy joe, but I am trying to treat them the way I would want them to treat me. Try it!

I've done this with a load in a pickup truck, since it's unsafe to travel at 55 with a full load. What I do , though, is pull over where I can to let traffic pass. However, on back country roads, opportunities to safely slow down and pull off are rare ... and for some reason, we have no shoulders to our roads around here. If you make a mistake, you typically wind up totaled down the hill. So, I do back up traffic and try very hard to let folks pass. I know how you feel and think consideration should be an enforceable thing. I'm not into farm tractors sharing the road and love it when they are courteous enough to pull over. That kind of mentality is quite nice ... and I like it.

I think that some people like to go the speed limit and feel that everyone else should also...this is just their way of enforcing the speed limit. Others are just oblivious or simply don't care. We really should applaud those people who are courteous enough to pull over in this situation!

because they are so self absorbed and feel that everyone should be going as slow as they are. OR they just can't drive like the majority of people.

I think they should just pull over and let us good drivers go.
