I have a HP photosmart M407. I am trying to learn the macro mode for closeups and fine details. When I get my setting for macro set-I hit the shutter button and I get a message that says unable to focus. What am I doing wrong?

Most cameras require that you have your lens zoomed out to it's widest setting in order for the macro feature to work.

For instance, if you have a 28-70mm lens on your camera you will want to make sure the lens is set to 28mm (wide angle) before you take the picture.

There is also a point where you can be too close to your subject, but typically in macro mode you can get down to 1-3" away before the camera has a hard time focusing.

Check your camera for the "minimum focusing distance" to find out the closest you can be.

Macro shooting is a lot of fun, it takes a little patience and practice but you'll be amazed at the detail you can capture. Good luck and keep shooting!

coz u r too close or maximum zoom to the object ... there's many ways to overcome this.. try to find a different contrast area to focus on or at least focus on a different contrast area then lock the focus ((i think by half pressing the shutter button)) and return back to ur view and take the shot....unfortunatly ur camera has no manual focus so u can turn off the auto focus and use the manual...GOOD LUCK

It usually means u r standing too close 2 the item u wanna take. u have 2 move further away so that the focus can work!

Try to lightly press the shutter button and when u hear the beep, press the shutter button all the way down to capture the pictures.
