My friend is taking Seroque to help him fall asleep. He is doing well during the day and is nice. When he takes the medication he feels sleepy, dazed, knocked out, doesn’t make sense and one thing I don’t like is that he becomes mean. Does Seroque suppose to make you mean? He is okay when he is not on it.

Do you mean Seroquil? If so it's an Anti Psychotic & being 'mean' is not a side effect I've heard of as it usually has a sedating effect.

Your friend may need to check with the prescribing Doctor. If that Doc wasn't a Psychiatrist then he needs to see one for a more considered opinion.

I'm taking it you mean the medication Seroquel (quetiapine or whatever it is). This drug is an anti-neuroleptic medication which means it corrects chemical imbalances in the brain. So from just saying that a person may become moody or erratic as the medication is trying to fix problems. This medication has sedative effects especially for the first 2 weeks as the body is adjusting to the medication. If he is lashing out at you it's probably because of the side effects. They are very nasty as I have personally been on this medication. This medication shouldn't be recommended for someone with sleeping problems unless there is a much larger psychiatric problem at hand. Usually sleeping problems are dealt with counselling and hypnotic drugs; not this sort. If he's saying it's for sleeping that's not correct as this drug is not used for that. This medication is initially taken once a day and increased every two weeks to a therapuetic dose. It is NOT for sleeping.

I take it, and it has been a lifesaver. When the sedation was too much, my doctor halved the dose, and that took care of that. When I was on the higher dose, I, too, was sleepy, cranky, and uncomfortable. My biggest complaint has been the weight gain. But, I will take that over the delusions, anxiety, and desperation I experienced before.

Your friend may want to talk to his doctor. Often people taking these meds don't check back with their physicians; they just suffer through the side effects, then quit taking the drug, deciding that their doctor is incompetent.

Well yes it can be the meds, and they need to change it. So your friend needs to the person that gave him or her the medication, they need to have the medication change cause that really does not s
help her, but makes her worse . They should be taking him off if he is haveing that reaction to the so i would go and see that she tells here skink,so they can take her off of it, and give her the corret it,cause she deserves to be feeling a better and not mean.
