Garibaldis are very thin buttery biscuits with currants or raisins inside- they were known as Squashed Fly biscuits when I was younger as the currants resemble dead squashed flies trapped in biscuit!! Not very appetising eh?!!! They are Ok dunked in tea but a tad dry! Not sure about calling biscuits after Italian leaders either- what next? Mussolini Marshmallow teackaes?

These are biscuits named after the Italian general Guiseppe Garibaldi who was responsible for the unification of Italy.
They consist of two biscuit layers between which are sandwiched currants or raisins.Apart from these the ingredients include butter ,flour and sugar.
Ever popular they are often referred to as 'Squashed fly biscuits'.

I use to like garibaldies...They were choice biscuits with dates or raisins inside. They were bought in tin containers which had other assorted biscuits.
