I have a friend who has been in a mental hospital many times—for major depression, psychotic episodes, anxiety, suicidal tendencies, paranoia disorder, and thinking there are voices when there aren’t. Don’t know what that’s called. But any way he tells me he is afraid nobody will date him or go out with him because he has been to a mental hospital and has these disorders. What do you think?

Some people under some don't or don't
Some think your using it for potty (last thing some on in his case is doing)
All of that is because of ignorance

It may help him to have a girl who can understand help him, support him,
understanding & support makes all the difference in the world. (trust me I know)
He doesn't need to open his box of secerts as soon as he meets someone
Telling someone those things should come with time and trust (dont wait a year)

You are a good friend you being there for him helps

I think he's right. No one wants to date a person with that amount of baggage especially paranoia and psychotic episodes. If he's not under someones care he needs to be. Getting the problem under control should be his only focus right now. If he gets into a relationship now he'll end up doing something to scare/hurt the person he's with. This will aggravate his condition and increase suicidal tendencies and anxiety the most. I've seen people with the same problems and even though they still have episodes from time to time they are under a doctors care and living a normal life. A few of them are even married. My advice is to tell him right now he needs to concentrate on himself. Time will take care of the rest.

16 years ago was when I was hospitalized for the first of many times. I was so ill I don`t remember much although near the end I do recall being told by staff not to sit so close to a fellow patient, although I don`t remember meeting them. In May we will be celebrating our 15 year anniversry. It has not been all roses but when you meet that someone all else seems to just fall in line. I believe there is someone for everyone.

Although he may be a great guy in general. The fact that these disorders are disrupting his own life. He needs to maybe stay out of relationships until he can get somewhat of a handle on his treatment and own health. Regardless of whether someone may be attracted to him or not...his biggest task is to learn how to take care of himself, love himself and then be able to love someone else. It isn't a hopeless situation, but one that will take hard work, a good support system and dedication on his part.

There is always hope that there is someone out there...I found someone but due to the fact that he was not coping with his illness very well he got scared that I would leave so he left me instead. Maybe me and your friend should talk. Sounds like we could maybe be friends and help each other.

yeah it might be hard for him to find someone to love on him because that would scare a lot of girls off. they would think he was crazy and he would be a lot of work all the tlc he would need but im sure there are women out there who wouldnt mind the extra work if he is truly willing to put forth the effort

In all honesty it will take someone very special to be able to handle his condition. In saying that when you fall for someone you take them warts and all. Don't give up l'm sure there is someone out there for "him".
