At this point, having gone this far with it, we should be taking it over and claiming it as Amrican soil. We need to start building shopping malls and Starbucks and McDonalds and put up some real traffic lights and pave those damn roads.
We should reap the financial benefits and expand our territory.
We should OWN that place...if we are going to go as far as we did.

First of all, I want to compliment you on the fine job that you're doing. We're all very proud of you.
I think the intentions to free Iraq and overthrow Saddam Hussein were good, and initial combat operations went well. But once the confrontation with the former Iraqi military concluded, the mission hit a quagmire.
Military personnel are combat troops, not police. I do not see the reason why combat troops must patrol as cops and be the recipients of pot shots and IED's. I just don't see the purpose in that. I believe that the U.S. government is handcuffing all of you and and giving you the worst Rules of Engagement ( ROE ) to follow. If our military is to route out insurgents, then the entire fight must be taken to them, with no rules! You go in, eliminate them, and turn the country over to the Iraqis.
I also believe that the Iraqis are letting American troops do the bulk of the dirty work so they don't have to. I don't understand why there is not more Iraqi participation. This is supposedly their country, you would think that they would make strives to get their affairs in order.
Then of course, there is secular fighting. Like things weren't bad enough, they have to fight among themselves and U.S. troops have to be in the middle playing referee. I see no purpose in that either.
I personally believe in supporting you folks in uniform, regardless of whether or not those leading you are making the right choices or not. Those that protest the war, and especially those that protest the soldiers, are nothing but garbage in my eyes and I have no mercy on them. I saw that crap happen during the Vietnam War, and the soldiers were not to blame, so why treat them that way?
I think they either need to let you eliminate the enemy, or pull you out and let the Iraqis fend for themselves. To sit there and be rifle fodder for no reason is absurd.
Please keep up the good work. Our prayers are with you.

If most of the people answering your question were running the country, we would all be speaking german right now. Basically the public opinion has no clue as to the importance of you being there doing what you are doing. Unless you watch fox news, you won't get both sides of the story from any news source. There are many here who realize the importance of what you are doing. Keep up the good work and come home when the job is done.

I'd say your stuck. Whether you should or shouldn't will depend on whom you ask. If George had hired people who knew something this entire thing could have gone (maybe) correctly and we'd be just about out. Few of us trust the him do make the correct decisions on anything. That clouds everyone (who thinks) judgment of the out come of this thing.
There is also the cost in lives and money. I think we'll see 5000 or so deaths before we're out and the cost, when all the bills come home (VA est. 500+ billion for long term care) will begin to push 2 TRILLION bucks.
It doesn't take much of an IQ to see a lot of things we could have solved with that kind of money beside this .......
Good luck.

I wish you all the luck. Actually most people around the world are against the Iraq war.
Do you feel that this is a just war? Deep inside you?
I consider the war as sheer greed and stupidity of the Bush Administration. There are worst regimes than Saddam's. Look at Saudi Arabia.

As you may or may not have heard from the state's news, is that most of us want you all home safe and sound, including me. We all support you and admire you for being over there in such a situation, but we'd rather you come home now. Bush has set this up for his own liking and lied to all of us and that's not fair to you or anyone living here in the states, nor is it fair that he bombed Iraq and made their homeland a total mess. Sadam is gone, but I think there could have been a better way to get this man out of power, not through a five year war. It is my hopes this isn't another Vietnam, but looks that way.
My thoughts are to have any Iraqi come move to the states and all our soldiers come back home too, and end this war as it stands now.
If Bush wants billions more for this war, then he should also get some of the oil as repayment. The states are headed for disaster monetarily-wise and who's going to be there for us when you and I turn old and grey? No one. That's my belief.
We need for you brave men and women to stand up to Bush and tell him it's time for all of you to return home. Bring any Iraqi people with you, who want to come.
I do wish you all the best and hope you return home safely.
My two cents...God Bless you and thank you for doing such a great job.

Unlike some who have posted I have relatives who have served in Iraq and I did ask them if they thought we were doing the right thing. I asked because I don't trust newspapers or the TV news casts. They said they thought we were doing the right thing. As long as the people I love believe in what we are doing I will too. All of you in the military weather stationed in a war zone or stateside are to be commended. You guys are great. I sleep better knowing fine people like yourselves are preserving our country and the things it represents. God bless all of you. God keep you safe and grant peace to you and your family.

we support you, but we want you to come home. I don't really have a real reason, I have to be honest. I just don't think it's right that you're all over there risking your lives fighting a war that was started by politics and greed (which i guess starts all wars, I'm a pacifist) I'm more interested in whether you think you should still be over there. YOu know the real situation, we know what the governments and media is telling us.

The U.S. should not have invaded Iraq because Iraq was never a threat the the U.S. It's amazing to me that the government still spins this war as anti-terrorism and it amazes me even more that people buy it. The United States has spent something like $400 billion on this war and they want to spend that much again, not to mention the human lives and for what?

I'd say you are the one that should be answering the question should you come back home or stay. You know what is happening over there and what the potential is for securing the country.
I support you on your mission. I wish you all could come home but I also know that may not be in the best interest of our country.
Just please take special care of yourself and each other. I'll support you regardless of what you have to do.
Thank you for serving our country.

Its not your problem, so why should you die? A soldiers job is to defend their own country from attack not invade someone else. There are measures other than force that could have been used. Evolution will take care of crazy rulers. If you could travel through time would you go back to defend some peasants from the vikings?
If you took all the money they have spent on the war, and used it to bribe the iraqis, Sadam would have been out and a new government in a long time ago.
