Snoring can be caused by sinus or by soft tissues in the back of the throat.
Since he drinks that soft tissue relaxes more and he snores more loudly. He's a future candidate for Obstructive Sleep Apnea.
Nothing will help this but medical treatment. Strips won't make a difference since they work to open the sinus passages.

Snoring problem could be a early sign of copd or sleep apnea Which is a pulmonary condition that would require the use of a cpap machine or oxygen be used at night in order to stop the snoring.
It could be sleep apnea another physical condition which if left un treated could actually lead to a stroke or heart attack in his sleep.
Before you go out and buy all those over the counter remedies that don't work, take him to see a doctor and have a sleep study done on him. They will get to the root cause of his snoring.
Then the doctors can make recommendations as to how to fix this problem.
I had a sleep study done to find out the cause of my snoring cause it would wake me up at night. I was ordered to get a cpap machine which is a machine that forces air down my airway at night while i'm asleep. I have to have a mask that fits over my nose, I don't snore anymore and i feel so much better.
Hope this helps.

If alcohol is involved then there is little point in trying remedies. They will be as useful as food is to someone with an eating disorder, pointless. He needs to be made to accept responsibility for his snoring and if he loves you then he will want things to improve. You should insist he sleeps elsewhere in the house until he figures it out. Tough love. Good luck.

Don't ever take the sleeping pills route!!
1. They will damage your liver big time and you can get into serious health problems.
2. You will get hooked up on them and you won't be able to have a normal life any more if you don't take your pills everyday.
The sleeping pills industry is damaging our health by capitalizing on our ignorance, and by distracting people from effective and natural ways to deal with this problem. I had been taking prescription sleep medications [Ambien] for over 5 years. It stopped working and I simply took more. Still did not work. Nights were very difficult - medication put me to sleep but I would wake up after 2–3 hours with a strong sympathetic response (fast pulse, pounding heartbeat, wide awake alert). It was a very difficult cycle to break. I was really in bad shape due to lack of sleep.
After years of struggling I was able to cure my insomnia naturally and pretty fast. I followed the Sleep Tracks sleep optimization program, here is their official web -site if you want to take a look: http://www.insomniacure.net
Ohhh..and Good Luck!

My husband uses snore strips for his nose and Olbas oil on his t shirt. When all else fails do what I do......consider putting a pillow over his face and sitting on it and then sleep in another room just in case you are seriously tempted>
