I'm trying to read Matthew right now, but I'm not understanding it. Could you give me a short synopsis or summary so I can know what's happening and then be able to understand? thanks

The four gospels were written to describe the life of Jesus. They are historical accounts written from 4 different perspectives. Each one of the gospels presents a different aspect of Christ. Matthew presents Jesus as the King of Kings. Therefore it records the lineage of Jesus, Him speaking with authority, and much is written about His Kingdom. It is written to the Jews from the King of the Jews. If you do not read it in that light it will be unclear since it speaks very little about the Church and a lot about the Kingdom of Heaven. The last wars etc mentioned in Matt 24 -25 are speaking about God setting up and restoring the Jewish nation. If you apply those things to the Church they don't fit. Mark presents Christ as the Servant who comes to bring salvation. Luke presents Christ as the son of Man and deals more with His human side than with His God side. John presents Jesus as the Savior of the world and so does not deal wiith His Kingship or His manhood, but with His salvation. It is written more to the church and speaks more of the Holy Spirit.
There are books on this, and many bibles have notes in them to explain this. God bless yu as you read.

Dear Friend,

It is hard to give a synopsis for any book of the Bible, as there is so much meaning book. I would suggest contacting a local Methodist Church who should be able to refer you to a local bible study group.

God Bless

There is a fabulous site on the Internet that will help you understand each chapter of the Book of Matthew and it takes you through each chapter and letting you know what the chapter is about and how it came about - you should give it a try !

Good luck and give it a go!
