It depends on where you live, but its either sand or salt (technically its not salt (sodium chloride)....most places have switched over to calcium chloride which doesn't clump as much).

They usually throw salt on the snow, becouse it will reduce the freezing temprature below 0, so it will prevent iceing on the roads.

West coast it is Sand or East Coast it could be Salt or sand.
Pray it is sand in the long run, it will make your Car last longer., if not Wash the Bottom ASAP.
