I use a onetel dialler for all my calls, so no calls should appear on my BT Bill, however my last bill to 31 Jan had 27 such calls all to the same number. The calls only last for about 37 to 40 seconds, but i am at a loss as to who I am supposed to be calling. BT can't identify the number!

If BT can't help and they should be able to, try Offcom.

If this is the wrong name I mean the office that controls communications.

They should be able to tell you what this number is and sort out the charge

Depends a lot on your dialler - this may be faultly.
Do you have a house alarm - it cound be this dialling out from your line?
Do you have sky - could be this dialling to check connection and services?
If not can do the following:
Firstly contact onetel and get them to check the equipment on your line.
Secondly contact BT - they will not initially refund calls - however will pass a call investigation team to check your BT side of things.

Hope helps.

contact bt again and explain that u do not use their network to make your calls and that u cant understand why this number is appearing on your bill, explain that u want the call charges for this number to be removed and that you want bt to investagate into this matter, bt may refer you to the provider you make your calls with explain that the call was made through bts network so that makes it their responsibility as they are charging you for the call, if no joy then ask to make a formal complaint and for someone from bt to contact you with a update in to this matter.

then contact ofcom explain the situation they will give you futher advise and support...
