I don’t believe in celebrating Valentines Day because of my spiritual believes. It’s against what I believe and my religion. But my girlfriend asks me what I got her on Valentines Day knowing that I don’t celebrate it. She is not being understanding and asks if I would do it for her. I told her that I would be violating what I believe in. What should I do? How do I make her understand?

She should be respecting your beliefs. If she wont listen to your reasoning then she really isn't being a very good girlfriend, especially as her only motivation seems to be 'getting a gift'. Try explaining patiently exactly why you believe what you do, tell her that it does not mean that you dont care for her and just hope that she sees things your way.

If you cannot compromise your beliefs and she is going to be hurt by this, why are you together? If you are serious about your religious beliefs, maybe you should date someone who shares your convictions. You will only have more conflict in the future if neither of you changes your beliefs. These things need to be thought out before you get serious about someone or you could end up very unhappy. Many people put this off until they end up married with kids and then the major fighting begins and the children are in the middle and suffering the most. Have a heart to heart with her and explain all of your beliefs. Then reassure her that you care for her everyday, not just on Valentine's. She needs to make a clear choice and so do you about the importance of your beliefs and the impact they will have on the future.

*Most people I know who do not celebrate Valinetines Day, also do not celebrate Christmas or Easter for the same religious reasons.

Also these sects that do not celebrate these days usually do not allow their members to marry or date unbelievers. If your girlfriend is trying to get you to violate your spiritual beleifs, she is probably and unbeliever according to your religion.

She may see some discrepencies in your beliefs. i know some who do not celebrate Valentines day for religious reasons, but they have no problem with sex before marriage. women figure if the man will violate one command for her, her won't have any problem violating another for her. I am not saying you do this, becuase you did not say, but if you do, this could have some bearing on her request. If so, just give in and buy her something nice, or like another guy siad, she will leave you.*

'tis for the believer to be virtuous! Your lady might appreciate an expression of amour from thee before the sun riseth on that day! No violation of your beliefs will ye submit. Such demonstration of love will be well recieved!

I don't celebrate Valentines day because it is my birthday so I celebrate that instead.
Explain to her your situation and if she really cares about you she will understand

God Bless You

Its a matter of who comes first, your girlfriend or your beliefs

I agree. You don't need to buy gifts on a day that society deems a day of love to let her know you care.

Tell her that you love her :-)
