You're a sweetie! I wish there were more people like you.
I'm not sure there's much that we can do really... I'm in to ducks and geese and if you've ever seen a goose get hit by a car, it's kind of traumatic! I am currently nursing one that has a broken wing, from being hit by a car. I saw it happen and other drivers just kept running over it!!! I was livid to say the least.
Animals are the innocent victims of our civility! They will do extraordinary things just for a morsel of food, and that includes crossing a road where they've seen the death of other animals.
There are worse things than death... they understand that better than we do!

The only way would be to get rid of all cars. I drive about 30 miles to work. One day last month I counted 6 skunks laying in the road dead. There were also other small animals I just noticed the amount of skunks because of the smell. It is not uncommon for me to see deer, turkeys, foxes and other animals cross in front of my car close to my house. I have to drive very slow and pay special attention. More so than city driving.

Animals often carry seeds of plants or maybe even a tree seed and disperse them places. They eat bugs that could be harmful and it's just the circle of life everything leads to another in the whole picture...their manure probably helps for fertalizer, I read somewhere that in the rainforest if you take away one species it could have a harmful effect on the tree especially if it has fruits sometimes it won't have any fruit because it has to adapt to a new change of no help from even a small thing like a gnat which another animal eats which another one does that helps the tree so the others lose the foodchain.

There are many ways to protect wildlife getting hit crossing roads. By building roads we intrude in their natural habitat. I know that Highways (because they act as barriers for animals) have underpasses somewhere for bigger animals. In parks speed limits are reduced or road humps introduced to protect e.g. rain-deer. But for smaller animals their should be some sort of a barrier to prevent them crossing on both sides of the road. Where sound barriers are built transparently along Highways, birds hit into them and get killed.

The only way to protect them is build barriers that prevent them from wandering into the road. But that only goes so far because if they want to get to the other side they will go under, around, or over the barrier.

the government should make tunnels under the high way for animals and fences on the sides to prevent them from crossing
have petitions for that ,it is the best thing that can be done
and put signs on the side of the road with sympathetic pistures of the animals getting killed

Awww that's so sweet. But the only way is to put barriers and even then most animals can still dig out of them so ppl just need to drive slower
