"here say" or witness testimony is what justifies a crime. Do you think cops are always there when a crime is committed? NO-that is why people come forward. Assault case-who was there? A WITNESS/VICTIM.

Here's the definition of "hearsay." Hearsay follows the reasoning that everything said, written, or otherwise communicated in everyday life is not necessarily true. Therefore, such information should usually not be admitted as evidence in a trial. She would have to have some type of proof.

It depends on where you are from, but generally the police just need suspicion to arrest someone. Suspicion can be created from hearsay.

The difficulty comes in prosecuting. To be found guilty, a higher level of knowing is need, "beyong a reasonable doubt". So they may be able to arrest you, but not charge you. A persons statement to the police may amount to "beyond reasonable doubt".

You can be jailed for up to 72 hours for no reason whatsoever.

You have rights but unless you know what they are and are willing to stand up for yourself, or can afford to pay for someone like me to do that for you, then you have no rights in reality only in theory.

People are being charged with crimes they had nothing to do with. People are being convicted with crimes based on only circumstantial evidence. NO PHYSICAL EVIDENCE!

When will Americans wake up? When will Americans stand up? My suspicion is never. Not for the bulk of them anyway.

Whoever said ignorance is bliss was full of b...s. I always laugh, although not hysterically mind you, when I hear about how government is supposed to protect us. Kennedy and MLK Jr. had it right when they both said (more or less the same thinking on this matter) ask not what your country can do for you but what you can do for your country.

Most Americans are selfish. They never bothered to serve the greater interest. They never bothered to serve their country. So they have very little idea of how to sustain it.

There are some laws now (thanks to the UNPATIOTIC ACT) that classify a person as a terrorist and once that label has been attached the ball game is over.

The bottom line: Yes, you can be arrested on hearsay and you can be convicted without any physical evidence whatsoever. The question now is: what are you going to do about it?

They can bring you in for questioning. What happens after that depends on what you say and what proof they have. I'm not sure how long they can keep you for. You do not have to say anything if they question you (And I mean say nothing at all. Just sit there) and you have the right to a lawyer as soon as they call you in.

Depending on the state you are in they can hold you pending investigation but you will have to be released in a certain amount of time unless they actually charge you with a crime. You should really look up the laws that apply to your state.

If there is not enough evidence, they have to have sustantial proof to arrest you, but they can take you in for questioning, but with the workload of the police I doubt very much that they will even do that

The police will need some sort of real evidence besides her say so to lay charges. (The spelling is "hearsay" by the way)

I think you mean 'hearsay,' in other words, someone else's word for it. Short answer: no. The way you make it sound, I doubt the cops are taking her too seriously.

Here's a tip. If you really wanna stay outta jail, don't sell drugs.
