I am a Muslim myself, and I would like to something to all of you. There is something here that is very important if you want to take of the prejudice that we're being plagued with recently. It's called the "Check Spelling" button. Look who would you rather believe?
Non-muslim: God doesn't exist, no proof was ever found.
Muslim: Allah is thee gretest, al ur raleegioon are false!
Seriously I'm begging you all, if you want Islam to look good, don't look like a complete idiot. You're only gonna make all of us look like a bunch of uneducated illiterate people. Also, regarding that sentence, ever seen this?
Christian: The love for Christ will save the world, it is the key to salvation, won't you love Jesus too?
How do you feel when the say that to us? Yeah it's annoying. But that's how they feel when we preach about Allah. Yes, to us it is true because it is our religion (Duh), but not to them, it is not our religion so they won't listen, they'll ignore Islam some more.--

Remember the Sura of Al-Kafeeroon? It says that "We won't worship your God, you won't worship my God, so my religion is my religion, your religion is your religion". So don't bother, they won't listen if we talk about Allah. The real way to teach them about Islam is how we carry ourselves, our actions our words that's how they are going to judge us. Show a good example and they wiill be interested, try to put yourself in their place and view us, how we act, be more open-minded. That was the way our Prophet spread Islam. Not by arguments filled with hatred and lies, but with peace and wisdom.
If they say we are terrorist, you musn't get angry with them, for patience is a virtue. But if you get all furious and all the bad words come out won't that make you look like a terrorist yourself? So please, do not doom our religion. Instead, lead by example.

Don't bother quoting from the Qu'ran long verses, they will most probably ignore it. Just take the relevant one, if they're still unclear on the subject then you can quote more.
Also remember, we are not Christians, we don't spread gospel. All we do is tell people about Islam, clear their misunderstandings, not to convert them. In the times we're facing right now where Islam is facing prejudice and ignorance, we the Muslims should show good examples.
If you want to correct or give an answer to those who is eager to know about Islam, make sure your facts are straight, you know what you're talking about and present Islam perfectly.

If the Christians or the Pagans or the Atheist or any other religion for that matter says that our religion is false, our Prophet was a liar, such and such. Why follow them? People would hate them for what they say. If we copy them and tell them their religion is false and our religion is true, we're only gonna bringing our standards to their level. Of course it's our religion so obviously it's true for us (Duh). Be considerate, don't you think that it's true for them too?(Duh).
Respect.
Respect others and others will respect us.

I speak from ijtihad, which is "reasoning from a legal source" which is from the Al-Qu'ran and Haddith of course. Not exactly orthodox but heck people listen to what I say because it's simplified english.
Regarding that not all Muslims can speak english well, I honestly suggest you guys do not speak at all, just be patient. But don't worry, there are a lot of Muslims who are and will answer and defend and..stuff. If you guys present facts that could be misread, misintepred, then that's gonna suck.

To those who critisized me negatively:
God damnit can't you read? I said TO Muslims, which means I'm talking to Muslims like me.
To Muslims:
This just shows some people who makes their religion look bad by lacking the ability to read properly. May I remind you let's not remind you to lower ourselves to their standards.

I agree with you, as Actions speak louder than Words.
But there has to be a twin approach.
We got to show the World 'Samples' like the Sahabahs (Companions of the Prophet). Yet it is a well known fact, that we wont be able to get Iman (faith) equivalent to them.
So there has to be decent arguments, exchange of ideas, debates and patience as what you said.
I agree with your part that says, that when they call us Terrorists we must be calm and reply peacefully. Da'waah must be done with Wisdom and with utmost respect.
Its really a pity that the Jewish and CHristian media ALWAYS spreads WRONG information about Islam. I just wish people can understand each other's believes in a peaceful manner that can solve all the tensions that we are facing today.
Peace Be With Alll of You.

Assalamu alaykum. Thanks a lot for pointing this out and partly you are right. I was a christian and because of people who keep on talking about islam I got back to Islam. There are pros and cons in talking about islam in the net. Its true that someone will ignore but there are those who are destined to go back to islam that one connection is thru any information including this yahoo. Its upto the questionner to bear the insult if he will push through preaching about what he believes in..regardless of his religion, race, nationality or belief. About the spelling, there are lots of people who are not computer literate. They might not know theres a check spelling button. Even myself i ignore its use as my purpose is to keep my thoughts rolling by answering as many as i can. I happen to notice this error in spelling from non english speaking nations and those who dont use the normal english alphabets like those using arabic alphabets. they tend to spell as how they pronounce it but I applaud those who are trying to get their message across by this way. I'm sure part of them are not graduates and didnt learn english spelling from school. There are those who are already seniors but still trying to learn. There are lots of idiots out there who answer questions unpolitely and this is more offensive than reading an incorrect spelling.

While I am what you might term a 'pagan' or even an 'atheist' or maybe a صابئية if you're better educated than most here in the west. Regardless I still applaud your efforts to get -anyone- to use the spell check button!

Assallam Mu alaikom.Warah ma tullah hi wabarakatuh.
Yes. Thank U. What U say is correct. But, at times, we need to re-But and upheld our dignity and demand their respect of our beloved Rasullullah hi sallah hu alai hi wassallam. We do not tolerate people who ridicule, belittle, insult and spread wrong perception of Islam. Many of them are ignorant and has zero knowledge about Islam, some are curious to know about Islam, When we answer their question, we want them to understand us and respect us the way we respect them. I hope I able to meet with your request on the matter.
Wabillahi Taufik Wal Hidayah,
Wassallam mu alaikom warah matullah hi wabaraka tuh.

What are you worried about. Even if someone has spelling errors I'm sure the people here get the meaning of what the person is trying to say.
And for that matter it doesn't make Islam look any better.

I love this post. Your amazing =)
It is so true, there are so many Muslims out there spreading propaganda and not the truth about our religion that it gives us such a bad name. For those of us that are trying to make people understand the peacefulness of our religion, we still give ourselves a bad name by appearing illiterate! Great observation =)
Also, I completely agree with not preaching about religion. Educate people about the misconceptions of our religion, but do not preach. After all, there is no compulsion in religion
And about not getting angry with people, yes it is so hard, but we really really must try to stay calm. Getting angry only perpetuates that we are a violent people. I cant wait for the day when terrorism is no longer synonymous with being Muslim.

Just because the majority of Muslims don't speak English you don't have to go and bash them. You could have easily just asked the question "Wy don't Non English speakers use the spell check"?
That applies to all not just Muslims.

Salaam ailikum, Brother Arak.
THANK YOU THANK YOU for making that point about spelling! Actually both points are excellent. Now if only someone could teach Americans to spell. I am often shocked at the spelling in here. Surely they are not ALL foreigners! LOL
I have spoken and spent time with many Muslims on line and phone for many years. Most of them speak English with an accent a chainsaw cannot cut through, but all of them write beautifully and use absolutely exquisite terminology. Arabic is, after all, one of the most poetic languages ever devised and can be amazingly precise in a way that English will never be. I know I could never learn to speak it at my age and am in awe of their accomplishment. Meanwhile my husband can hardly squeeze two words of English out that is legible!
I know we are supposed to do Da'wa but I avoid preaching. I prefer to live by example. If I am asked a question, and this occurs fairly often, I answer with a smile and a fairly simple explanation. I avoid hadiths and Koranic quotes because they mean nothing to a Westerner. Most people appreciate simple honest answers. The moment I see a glazed eye or a yawn, I finish up and move the conversation along or ask a question. Besides, I am a revert and don't know enough to use such things as references.
I have also found that when you throw a whack of Arabic into a sentence, people often react as if you have thrown a nasty curse on them and want to know immediately what you said. Best to stick to language they know. Instead of "Allahu akbar" I will still say "God is Great" so they know my words. It also helps them understand that we speak with much prayer and reference to God in our ordinary language.
I answer many questions in here, in depth. On all topics. Many of them are political. I take no stance as a Muslim, I take my stance as a human being. LOL I get plenty of thumbs down for my opinions as it is. I might mention I am Muslim, but I do this to make the point that we are fully capable of rational thoughts and political views. I also do it so they can read that a Muslim woman can speak out and is not the beaten creature so many think we are. Gosh, I never wear a black burqa!
We have much work to do to counteract Islamophobia in North America. First impressions are important, so being literate is an excellent thing. The problem with the Spell Check Button is, I find more often than not, it gives me words that have nothing to do with what I had written. I fear many who do not speak English well would not end up with a legible response. Tonight, I was typing the States and capital cities of India, and Spell Check was just amazingly funny! It is like the time I sent my husband, who speaks Arabic much better than English, a letter I translated into Arabic using an on-line programme. When he read it, it made absolutely no sense to him! Everything was garbled.
Thanks for your words. I hope you don't get slammed from all sides! We are currently living in a world of extremes.
To be very honest, I feel that the hatred being generated in the East for the West, and in the West for Muslim counties, comes from governments and arms dealers who make much money from conflict. It is up to individuals like all of us to do our best to make things better if we can. One person at a time, coming to peace with us, is fine by me. However, I digress.
BTW, I wish to thank everyone who is so generous with their "thumbs down" because the speaker is someone you dislike or disagree with. I have noticed quite often, many thumbs down for wonderful advice, simply because it comes from a Muslim!
Thanks again.
