Are Visa, Mastercard, and Discover accepted more or less equally in New Zealand?

My 20 year old son will be traveling there shortly for the first time and I want him to take a credit card rather than all cash.

I think your son is best to get a Visa or Mastercard...I have never heard of Discover so not sure where they would be accepted but certainly Visa and Mastercard are accepted just about everywhere.

Visa and master yes, discover no sure.
