unfortunately , this disease has a poor prognosis (outcome)...there's no curative medical treatment for it... there is progressive increase in the pressure inside the skull which will definitely affect the Brain functions...there's dome medications that are given in such condition to decrease production of the cerebrospinal fluid inside the brain however this is inadequate for cure...the best available management is an operation ,shunt operation , in which surgery is done to drain this fluid from brain to another area in the body usually to the peritoneum the earlier the operation is done the better the results as regards the life expectancy of the patient......

I am very sorry for what you are going through. Believe me, I know what you're feeling. My eldest son, who is now 12 and a half years old, was operated on when he was only 16 days old for pyloric stenosis. My youngest son who is 4 years old was operated on last October for hydrocephalus. He is now doing very well, they tell me he is not mentally retarded, he is very active but the hydrocephalus has left him blind from one eye. I got the confirmation only yesterday and I'm feeling really down as there is absolutely nothing that can be done. Has surgery been considered for your baby? I presume he was born with the condition, my son developed it gradually very slowly and when the symptoms started to show I knew there was something terribly wrong, I noticed something wrong with his eyes, I cannot describe what I was seeing, just something inside was telling me to seek help. But 4 doctors, two of them opticians saw nothing wrong, still I persisted until they performed a CT Scan and an MRI and saw the hydrocephalus. Evidently it was too late for his left eye. If only I had persisted more, threaten to strangle some doctor so they could have taken me more seriously, maybe he would be ok now, but I'm just being grateful that that is all he lost, one eye. Don't give up hope and insist with the doctors that all that is possible will be done for your baby. I promise you my prayers for your baby and for you as well so you will be filled with courage as your baby needs you more than anyone else.
