What are the steps to take in order to become one, and also, how does one get certified in order to operate as a translator. So far, I can say that I'm very fluent in two languages being one of them my primary language. Please! answer ONLY if very familiar with the subject to avoid confusion...( no offence intended)

Well, you don't say what country you're from, so I don't know if you need to be "certified" translator where you live. I live in Italy and you don't need to be certified to do translations. I was a translator for several years and I got translations through various means. I put ads in local papers, got them by word of mouth, contacted a couple of translation agencies offering my services. All these things put together did eventually give me a pretty steady flow of work coming in. In the end, I even got a translating job with a very important religious order to translate their monthly newsletter for their English speaking branches world wide. I translate from Italian to English and English to Italian. Of course, the amount of work you get will depend how much the languages you know are requested. Work will be slow at the beginning, but if you're good and build youself a reputation of being professional, punctual and accurate, you should do pretty well.

Depends on where you are from and what the demand is for. I was going through a certificiation in Oregon for the court system, which you have to have in order to become a freelance translator. It consisted of 3 tests. One was a written translation test, the second was an ethics test and the third and oral test. It takes a lot of work and dedication. Just because a person can speak two languages doesnt mean that they can translate. You have to know how to say very single word and translate it exactly to the point. You have to be able to speak without stopping to think. You have to be able to use the same expressions as the person who you are translating for. You have to be able to read in one language and translate at the same time while you are readng. It is a lot of work.
