For someone who is widely known like Osama Bin Laden. According to Arabic language rules, is it a common thing to address him only as "bin laden" since he is a widely known person? Or we address him as ibn laden? (assumed that his first name "Osama is not used)

Please explain. Thanks

Ibin and bin both mean "son"
osama bin laden : we use bin between two names
osama son of laden
Ibin laden: we use Ibin when just saying son of laden without mentioning the first name.

its the arabic language rules and grammar.

its simple and easy for whom speaking arabic

and by the way its only in written is different but in speaking both are Ibn.

Ibn is a title, I don't know what it stands for or means for I am not Arabic. But as a Muslim I know it's a title like Ibn Shah Jalallulai. Bin is "Son of". Osama bin Laden is "Osama son of Laden", means the guy's father is Laden. But since Westerners tend to address people by family names which most Muslims don't have, they call him bin Laden. It's more or less equilivant.

Actually they both mean the same, ibn and bin both mean "the son of". The difference is not in the meaning, it is mostly about the usage of Arabic it self and where the person using the name comes from.

Bin is usually associated with Gulf state Arabs, mainly Saudi Arabia. Ibn is the more modern approach to the word and is mainly used in countries like Egypt & Lebanon.

Arabic language varies slightly between the different countries, just like English differs between the states, England, Australia etc.

bin and ibn are same which means "the son of" and both them are correct in Arabic language :)

but when you cancel the first name , we prefer to say "Ibn laden" and if you want to mention a whole name you can say Osama bin laden .

peace .
