.....would a windfarm be capable of capturing all of the potential wind energy or would the majority go to waste, and would the windfarm survive such extreme power mechanically?

Most wind generators have a rated maximum speed at which they can operate. Above this speed, the mill is normally shut down and locked so that it can't rotate. The extreme conditions of a cyclone would cause the generators to overheat, so they don't run them during that sort of a storm.

(ANS) The answer is pretty simple, if a cyclone or hurricane hit a wind farm it would simply knock it flat. It wouldnt stand a chance.

With wind speeds of 100+ mph the towers wouldnt survive that kind of attack.

wind farms in the UK are rated up to Gale force 9, above that they shut down for safety reasons
