There isn't a hard and fast rule that dictates how much you should spend on a wedding ring or engagement ring. You should spend what you are capable of and good deals are never looked down upon.

The most important factor in choosing, I think, should be what you think he or she will like the most. Is their favorite metal silver, gold, or platinum? Is their favorite stone a diamond? Would they like a complementary stone like an emerald or ruby or sapphire? Not all men or women have the same tastes, obviously, and while the solitaire engagement rings are the most popular you may want to ask her friends for advice if you aren't sure of their preferences.

There isn't any rule on how much a ring should cost. That was just a marketing ploy by De Beers. Get what you like and what she likes. Remember if a ring is too big everyone thinks it's fake anyway. Big and believable is a good standard. If your talking a wedding band and not an engagement ring then I think the most important thing is to get something that you like and that is comfortable. Hopefully you are going to wear it for the rest of your life. Find what you like then it doesn't matter what it costs, whether inexpensive or expensive. Best of Luck to You and Best Wishes!!!! :)

No there is no rule on a minimum you must spend. But I do feel there is a rule for a maximum you may spend... No more than you can reasonably afford!! I would hate to spend so much on a wedding ring that we would be paying for it months or years after the wedding. I'd rather spend the money on a house or the honeymoon or a trip for our first anniversary!

Most of these people seem to be talking about an engagement ring. But you mean a wedding ring, don't you. They are a lot cheaper of course because there is no diamond, it's just a band of gold. There's no rule about price.

No, it's what the guy can comfortably afford. Don't listen to those who say to spent two or three months' salary; that is just marketing hype by diamond and jewellery sellers. Don't go into debt over just a ring. Choose something that you think she might like; a mature woman will appreciate the symbolism.

CONGRATS,THERE IS NOT A RULE ON A WEDDING RING BUT THERE IS A STUPID ONE ON ENGAGEMENT RINGS WHY SPEND SOME RIDICULOUS AMOUNT ON A BAND AND ALSO MY HUBBY MADE A GOOD POINT THAT YOU SHOULD FIND OUT WHAT SHE LIKES FIRST SO YOU BUY HER SOMETHING THAT SHE DOESN'T HAVE TO PRETEND TO LIKE SINCE EVERYONE HAS DIFFERENT TASTES OR TAKE HER WITH YOU IF YOU HAVEN'T PROPOSED YET THAN YOU GET ONE FROM A MACHINE OR SOMETHING THAN AFTER SHE SAYS YES TAKE HER WITH YOU TO PICK ONE OUT MY HUBBY ALSO SAYS A PROMISE RING IS ANOTHER GOOD WAY TO BUY YOURSELF TIME TO COME UP WITH THE MONEY...GOOD LUCK

Marry a seventh day adventist woman. They don't wear any jewelry, and you won't have to spend a nickel on a ring. If your woman judges how much you love her by what you spend on a ring then she's nothing but a materialistic waste of your time. She should appreciate whatever you give her, no matter the cost.

The general rule is 2 mo salary. But if you can't afford that buy her the most beautiful ring you can afford w/out going broke. If she's the right girl she'll love it bcuz u gave it 2 her.Congrats!

Traditionally a month's wages!

But before you buy a diamond remember to check that it is ethically sound - ie not from a mine where people are enslaved or forced labour.

Possibly your best *ethical* bet is to buy a second hand (vintage) ring. Which would probably have more character also.

No. There's only the girl who loves you and wants to spend her life with you, and the girl who cares about how much money you spent on the ring, so she can show and tell to her stupid friends. I hope for your sake, you have the first type of girl.....if not?? RUN!!!
