Why not? Call from your land line and withhold the number if you are not sure. If you like the sound, then you can meet up safely - ie choose a busy place, afternoons are better than evenings, tell people where you are going and even have a friend come with you and watch from a distance for the first 5 minutes to make sure everything is OK.

It's safe as long as you don't tell the person too much. Don't go giving out addresses etc. You never know who you are talking to nowadays. Give this some time and sound it out first.
Just be sensible.

You met someone and don't know anything about him/her? Then, it's okay to call, but only meet in a public place. If you're concerned about safety, you should alsotell someone you know where you are and when you expect to return. However, if you have real concerns about safety, and they're based specifically on this person and not in general, then you probably shouldn't date him/her.

Calling is harmless. And if you feel you may be keen then phone calls are your safest bet for intial getting to know him.
Dont meet up until you feel you know enough about him and try to keep it phone text thing for as long as possible. That way he will show his true colours if he is just a mess arounderer!

calling someone isn't that big of a deal as long as you didn't get any sort of creepy vibes from them...it's the going out with them part that you've got to be careful on.
