Both choices are correct; it's just a matter of what you feel you need to do to survive.

The best way to avoid being raped is to stay out of those situtions. A lot can be done to prevent rape. Don't walk alone at night, lock your doors when you come in, don't go out drinking without a trusted friend, etc. Carrying some kind of easily accessible self defense tool is also a good idea, whether it be pepper spray, a baton, a tazer, or a gun. Just make sure you are trained in handling your method of protection. A self defense course is also a fantastic idea.

If you are threatened with rape, it might help to say you have genital herpes, AIDS, or another sexually transmitted disease. Ultimately, it's your choice as to whether you feel you can fight off your attacker, or if he might kill you if you resist.

Hope this helps...

Either of those scenarios can still result in rape.
I was raped once.I tried to fight and tried to defend myself. But the rapist threatened me with a knife. So I had to give in,or I would be dead now.
Modest dress doesn't stop rape.Rapists don't care about your clothes, they are power-hungry animals that will stop at nothing.
As others have said, try and take every precaution against getting into a dangerous situation.

It depends largely on where you are ... if they're trying to get you into a vehicle, fight tooth and nail ... DON'T let them take you to another location, if your in the public eye.

If they have you at a deserted location, you may have to give in ... and see if they'll let you go afterwards ... if not, THEN fight for all your worth.

Rape is not a sexual act. It is an act of control and violence. Their ultimate goal is to hold power over a victim. You could dress in sack cloth and still be raped.

Take a GOOD self defense course that includes techniques for fighting back, what to look for to keep yourself safe (awareness of your surroundings and what to avoid), and mental techniques to avoid appearing to be a target.

The big thing is not getting into a situation where you are at risk. This is not always possible but there are some very concrete things to avoid. I have included in the "source" section some very contrete and immediately applicable advice for those wo are NOT trained.

You do not want to look like a victim. You want your assailant to, if choosing between you and another victim, to choose another. Training shall help you not look like a victim as well as teach you the situational awareness to avoid it, if possible.

Each situation is different and what works in one situation might get you killed in another.

One of the problems with such as pepper spray, tazers, or any other weapon is this: are YOU going to go to jail. Then, can you effectively use this sort of weapon? More importantly, is the assailant going to wait around for you to dig your weapon out of your purse or pocket. If you do have it handy, is he going to take it from you and use it on YOU.

What you have to to is train. Period. And train in a GOOD self defense course. Repeat the self defense course at least once a year.

Depends on your opponent. Giving in will not avoid the rape, but may save your life if the opponent is more powerful than you. If you think you've got a chance at fighting, then go for the bastard, tooth and nail!

Well obviously if you just give in, you're not going to avoid being raped. Plus, juries suck. If you don't fight like hell, they're liable to say it was consentual. I'm in the fight like hell camp. He'll be minus some eyeballs or sporting some snapped fingers and crushed bones in his feet before he gets any from me.

Rape is about control and power, not sex. If a man is intent on raping someone, it won't matter if they're dressed like Britney Spears or a nun. Saying to wear modest clothes goes back to trying to blame the victim. Pepper spray is crap, if there's any wind you're liable to get it in your own eyes. You can do more serious damage with a set of keys held with each key coming out between your fingers in a clenched fist. No kicking the balls, the guys expect that and if they catch your foot, they can flip you on your back in 2 seconds. Eyeballs or a lip in the nails is excruciating, as is a stilletto heel in the sensitive bones atop a foot, or a finger snapped like a twig. Make the bastard suffer.

I have personally heard of a situation where two girls were held at knifepoint by burglars. The burglars raped the first one, who gave in, but they left the second one who screamed and fought when they tried it.

If you give in, then you HAVE been raped.

Some precautions - stay alert, never travel alone in places you aren't familiar with, be aware of your surroundings, and carry some kind of a weapon or weapons. Take a self-defense class. And do not tempt fate by going to places that are known to be dangerous.

'tis a sad day when thou quivereth at the thought of thy sanctity lost. Fearest not thou, for blameth be on he who doth act in this manner. When underest a haze of confusion art ye, thy powers against he be diminshed. Companions thou must keepest close. Never befall the trap setteth by he that would taketh thine honour.

Fight...my first attack happened when I was a boy (13 years old) and though I'm effeminate, I'm not gay. My self respect kicked in, and I survived.

All of the men involved in this pathetic attempt on my self image are now in prison. Our country has revolved upon "owning" someone else, but they (Amerikan folk) have failed.

Praise God that He owns me...Hallelujah!
