I think that it is very witty, funny, cynical and unfortunately, probably true.
Maintaining awareness of what we are doing is difficult and if we do something which we later reflect that we shouldn't have done the easiest way to deal with it is denial.

Hmmm I dun know if I should agree or not. Coz firstly conscience has nothing to do with memory at all. But when I think of myself I have to agree. Just as much as my conscience is clear, my memory is weakening as well. I dun understand the connection though..

Or worse, your insane. Stalin probably had a clear conscience because he didn't think what he was doing was wrong.
And Hitler thought killing Jews was the morally responsible thing to do.

a little cynical unless one is exemplary it is more than likely true
they did not say always just usual ;so I agree reminds of a line from the turgid supernatural soap opera Angel when they say some one was hiding their guilt behind lies and the response was they lies were there to enable them to endure it .

i disagree. i can have a clear conscience in knowing my sins are forgiven through the death of Jesus Christ even though my sins are very apparent to me. but in knowing that Jesus has forgiven me, i feel free and my heart does not have that weight of guilt on it any longer.
