You can have a strong medical background by reading so much about medicine even in the internet but to get the right background, you need formal schooling. Medicine is both a science and art.
I start my undergraduate students in dealing with the language of medicine first, then letting them go and read about medical subjects. Some read a lot and still surprise me.
