I found my kitty when she was about 4-5 months old. She was a stray and was extremely malnourished and possibly dehydrated. We kept food in her bowl 24 hours per day. We used dry food at first, it's better for them, and it's crunchy and good for developing teeth.
As she got a little older, we fed her canned food in the mornings and then kept her bowl full with dry food for the remainder of the day.
Kittens are high energy and will eat often. Not big gulps of food at a time, but little bits.... then go off to play........then come back for more.
Keep a little bowl of kitten food available and change it daily. We really had no set amount of feeding times. They pretty much regulate themselves.
Hope this helps you.

Depending on the age of the kittens ...
It is reccommended that:
up to 6 months of age three times a day
6 - 12 months twice a day and after that once a day.
Having said that .. lol.... my cats have "all in" dry food on offer all day. ("All in" food is food that has all the nutrients the cat needs and there is no need for anything extra.) They also get some wet food at night. The wet food is either canned or fresh meat - roo or (human) chicken mince. They also get some (human) sardines once a week to up their omega 3. This was on the advice from my animal herbalist

When I had kittens I usually feed them 3-4 times a day.
Now that she is an adult she gets breakfast and dinner. But there is always "dry food" (Not sure about the English word for it) out for her.

Twice with canned food and free-feed dry food. The dry food is always available.
Follow your vet's advice or read the label.
Please buy quality food, not the stuff you get at the grocery store.

We bought a self feeder, one of those contraptions that you fill and when they eat the food moves down keeping the bowl full.
I believe they should have food at all times, so they can eat when they are hungry and not have to wait until we get around to feeding them.

I leave out dry food all the time so my cats eat when they want.
