It can actually take up to a year for the skin to completely heal after a tattoo. Unless the skin has broken and there appears to be an infection, you should be okay. However, if it would make you feel better you can always talk to the artist who did the tattoo.
I had a similar thing happen with my last tattoo and the person who did it told me that in areas where the skin is more sensitive and not exposed to the elements as much (sun, wind, etc.) this can sometimes happen. My has healed up nicely and hopefully yours will soon.

It sounds like it could be an infection of some sort. If the tatooist used sterile procedure like he's supposed to, you probably just picked it up somewhere. Actually if it's been 11/2 months you'd of probably seen it a long time ago if it were the tattooist. And you said the antibiotic ointments aren't working, well maybe it's fungal. Or your not using the ointment correctly, or the bacteria has become resistant to the ointment. If the tatoo on your left wrist is fine it's probably not an allergy to the ink. However if you start feeling lightheaded, dizzy, difficulty breathing, break out in hives, red lines start to appear, go to the emergency room or call 911. You may be having a late allergic reaction. Most likely it's not that either because you'd of probably seen the reaction long before now. Other then that if you start feeling pain, or the swelling or rash won't decrease over the next couple or so days go to see a doctor.

Don't believe all of the BS written about tattoos from idiots who only think they know. Those people have never been in the business and never got a tattoo. They think that you can easily have an allergic reaction from the ink when in fact only one in 10,000 actually have an allergic reaction and it's mostly red ink they have the problem with. I've been in the tattoo business for 20 years and I've done some rather in depth studying on the subject and I've also talked to many doctors and of those several have been my customers.
It sounds like you might have been tattooed a little too deep and now the ink is starting to bubble up. Don't worry about it, it will go away in time but it might be a bit itchy for a while.

well, if you've ruled out obvious reasons such as new soaps, detergents, medications, etc. and no other part of the body is itching... guessing your skin is irritated. Did you do the proper regimen after you first got the tattoo, letting it heal correctly? If it gets worse, I would contact the place you got the tattoo, or if you aren't comfortable there, go somewhere else.
sorry, no clue why :) i hope it doesn't happen to the one I just got

It may be infected - it's pretty easy to introduce infection through simple scratching.
It may have nothing to do with the tattoo and everything to do with microbes under your fingernail and an insect bite you scratched (which just happened to be on the tattoo).

Please read this article. It is about being allergic to the ink used to tattoo. Red is a common color that alot of people are allergic too.
