What is the best way to enjoy the nightlife in Bangkok and in Chiang Mai. I plan to stay 3-4 days in each places. I love discos and dancing, so I was wondering what was the "Etiquette" or discoing and bar-hopping in these cities. What do you suggest? for example, will be ok to ask a single girl to dance? are the discos usually crowded? and where would be the best place to hang out?

Bangkok has many Disco's, mainly located along Royal City Avenue or in that area. Chiang Mai does not have the same range but some of the hotels have night clubs. Yes they are crowded, particularly at week-ends and yes it is OK to ask a Thai girl to dance, she can always say no.
Some other answers refer more to the professional class of ladies who operate from bars all over Thailand. In these you would not expect to dance, only to watch them, drink and make commercial arrangements for anything else.
Try the link below for some information. I have lived here for 12 years so I know that you can find whatever you want.

Nightlife in these 2 places will be crowded on weekends, with many locals going for a night out. Fri and Sat are usually the most crowded. In Bangkok, you should be able to find plenty of spaces at the more touristy areas as the locals seldom frequent them. This is especially true if you take a walk along Sukhumvit Road and its many side roads.

Chiangmai, the discos in the hotels will be fine. Less attractive for the locals in general. You will still be able to find many pubs and bars, especially along the main roads.

Enjoy.

if your going to party stay in bangkok and pataya and areas south chang mai is slower and the only party spots are in the main hotels other than the bars on the streets that always have a small dance floor and an old woman staring at a small tv with her dog. Chang mai is good if your relaxing and want a beer and less hectic than bangkok

Are you kidding? The best way to enjoy the nightlife in Thailand is "very intoxicated". The clubs and discos are VERY crowded, noisy, smoky and crazy. The "where" depends on your age, price range and what you are looking for. It is perfectly acceptable to ask anyone to dance, or pretty much anything else... but do be careful,
