I think you should care about losing the weight in a healthy way, because if you lose it in an unhealthy way (crash dieting, diet pills), it's almost certain to come back on...with even more poundage than before. So here's how to lose weight in a healthy way by October (if you're male, it'll probably be a faster process than it is for a female).
1) Cut out all sugary and/or carbonated drinks. I'm not talking about seltzer water, but about clear fruit juices and soda. These have empty calories, and often tend to make you hungrier.
2) Drink LOTS and LOTS of water. Every day, 10 glasses (80 oz.) minimum. Water keeps you feeling full and nourishes your body. It'll make it easier to get through the day, and to exercise.
3) Cut WAY back on starchy white-flour carbs. (Muffins, cookies, crackers, white breads and rice and pasta.) These have no virtually no nutritional value, and they tend to be stored as excess fat. Replace these with sensible portions of whole grain foods. Brown rice, whole wheat bread, bagels and pasta, and non-buttery popcorn. You should also try legumes (chick peas, kidney and black beans), lentils, and sweet potatoes. These digest slowly, have lots of nutrients, and don't spike and then drop your blood sugar dramatically. They are less likely to be stored as fat than their refined counterparts.
4) Protein is essential. Eat it in lean forms for the most part: lean beef, chicken, chicken sausage. Chicken fried steak or McNuggets don't count. You can also get protein from eggs, yogurt, milk and cheeses, and vegetable sources--like the legumes I mentioned above. Meat provides protein that is more readily accessible to the body than do vegetable sources, however, so if you're not vegetarian lean meat and dairy is the way to go.
5) If you can manage it, eat a good breakfast. Oatmeal is good; I like to add fruit, nuts and milk to mine, and eat some cheese on the side for protein. A lot of people eat eggs or egg whites; others choose wholegrain toast/pancakes. Whatever floats your boat, just make it healthy and get your metabolism started for the day.
6) Once you've eaten breakfast, try to eat every 2-3 hours. These meals needn't be big (in fact, none of them should be huge) but it's good to keep healthy food in your system, to keep your metabolism humming.
7) Exercise is pretty key to losing weight quickly. Strength train; find a weightlifting program on the Internet and print it out. Start out easy, and you'll probably find that you can make rapid gains as you work out a schedule and your diet improves. Strength training isn't everything, though; to lose fat it's good to work on your cardiovascular fitness too. Take walks if it's your thing; run, swim, or use the elliptical machine. You can lose weight through diet alone, but the weight will come off much quicker with the aid of exercise.
Good luck! You can do it with some lifestyle changes, and I swear it's not that hard. By keeping your metabolism and body active, you'll feel better and look better as well. Losing 50 pounds is by no means an insurmountable goal, if its 50 pounds of unnecessary fat.

I can tell you for sure that if you are drinking sugary drinks - cola and juices, if you replace these with water and convert your milk to skim milk, you will likely loose 10 to 20 lbs within about a month. After that, you're going to really have to watch what you eat and try to excersize. A McDonalds meal, for example, is nearly your ENTIRE day's content of calories, and you probably have 2 or so left to go. Have a light breakfast in the morning - just enough calories to get your metabolism started, but not necessarily enough to feel completely full. If you can fight the hungry feeling for about a week, you'll have gone a long way to helping yourself out. Convince yourself that you don't have to clean your plate - say to yourself, "I'm full enough that I do not need more." Simply doing this can loose you around a pound a week. So, if you can loose the 15 lbs from stopping the sugar intake, this leaves you with 35 lbs to loose through a proper diet, and that is very nearly how many weeks you have left. The excersize should get your metabolism up just enough to get under the wire. Definite good luck...it takes a lot of will power...and I know first hand.

I've tried many diets and couldn't make anything work. Since having my first child, I've been carrying around an extra 30 pounds. This diet just made sense and showed me that everything I was doing before was wrong and a waste of my time.
The plan was so refreshing and so simple to follow. I did everything plan said and lost 23 pounds in the first three weeks. I'm now starting the diet again to lose 7 more pounds. This plan has changed my life.
Get started today!

First of all, OUTSTANDING! Keep up the great work -- it will pay off. It sounds like you are doing a lot of really good things to get the weight down; lifestyle change is imperative, and it seems you have been able to grasp the right direction. I am not an expert by any stretch of the imagination -- I do recommend that whatever weight loss plan you do follow that it is after you have sat down with your doctor to discuss it. Below, I have attached a link to a person who had to lose 65 pounds to join the Navy -- long story short, he is now a Petty Officer Second Class serving aboard a submarine. I hope his story can help!

Nourish your body thin, instead of starving your body fat. Good carbs like celery and carrots will never make you fat. Bad carbs like cake will, but you don't need to know the whole science of glycemic load. You need to re-learn how to eat so you can become thin and healthy. Salt has no calories but makes you fat and burning more calories does not help this fatness.

that's a lot to loose in about 8 months. but if you're determined, consistent and discipline you can. start on a high fibre low fat diet with lots of vege and fruits. eat more fish, tofu, tuna or lean meat. opt for grilled/steamed. replace ice cream, cake or chips with rice cracker, peanuts, dried fruits or baby carrot. drink plenty of water to flush out toxins and get enough sleep. now it's time to sweat yourself, but start slowly if you have not been exercising before. opt for cardio workout to burn overall body fat at least 3 times a week, 40 minutes per session. walking is good for you and you can increase the intensity as you progress taking hill sides or move to jogging. don't forget to lift weight to increase your muscle mass twice a week. to keep your motivation level up, register free-online fitness program, they provide good advice & tips. my favourite is www.prevention.com. reward yourself for your hard work by going to a body massage, new hair cut or a new wardrobe. and remember, if any of your friends sabotaging your goal, change them for good! good luck
