October is the 2nd rainiest month in that part and most parts of Thailand. But most of the time, you'll have a downpour for a half an hour or so, the clouds go away and it's sunny again, but not always. The beginning of November is the beginning of tourist season, and prices go up considerably, sometimes double, for hotels, it's also the beginning of the dry season here. The prices will stay constant for food, entertainment etc. Airfares from the US or Europe will usually be very good that time of year (Oct,-Nov.), as the summer vacation season is over. I wouldn't worry about the rain,
but if you are, try late October, and if you can find a good price on a hotel in November, wait until then, as the prices on just about everything else will stay the same. Have a good trip!

In my opinion October is a great time too visit Phuket, sure it may rain but it won't last long and once its stopped the sun will come out. And you will also get better deals in this month than in November when room prices do go up. I will be their myself this October, can't wait!
Hope you have a great holiday which ever month you decide to go.

October is before the tourist peak season, so you can get good price for your accommodation. One reason is that it is still the rainy season. So you have to try your luck, and as many had been there, the rain is only temporary. You will still have a great time outdoor.

I would say not really. It usually rains a lot in October, especially in Southern Thailand. And believe me, hot weather + rain is the ugliest combination!

It's quite hard to answer since every year "the classical seasons" are changing. E.g. November/December 2005 was rain, rain, rain whereas 2006 it was bloody hot!I don't dare anymore to give a forecast for my customers.
