why would christians use the Bible to guide their beliefs about abortion?

Probably to support what they're against. They use the murder commandment & the idea that life starts at conception. Both are in the bible. It really shouldn't be a religious issue actually.
It's more than ironic that some pro-lifers say that aborting a child is murder but then some turn around and bomb abortion clinics or shoot the doctors who preform abortions. I guess life is only valuable in utero.

A Christian will want to let his worldview be guided by the Bible, because the Bible is God's Word to us, useful for guiding us through life and in making decisions that are God-honoring. And any decision that is God-honoring is also life-affirming.

They don't. Some toothless, backwoods graduate of a mail order course from the Delbert Higgins College of Theology and VCR Repair told them a book they can't read/understand "says it's so." Of course, it doesn't. In fact, the closest it comes to the issue is defining the beginning of life as the point when the first breath is taken AFTER birth.

the bible is "a guide on how to live life for God"
now... Christians want to live for God and do all that is pleasing to him for he is so great to them.
as far as abortion goes, it is taking the role of God into your own hands in deciding when death is to acquire. which is blasphemy.
