You will not find much out there these people are willing to share with you as it is a highly guarded technical secret. Suffice it to say, MWD - Measurement While Drilling tells the azimuth and angle the instrument is facing. By tracking the survey depth, etc..., the Directional Driller is able to steer the drill bit to the target.

Logging While Drilling, uses a radioactive source to log the characteristics of the formations while drilling. It replaces wireline technology.

You can also try Baker Hughes. This is the company I worked for back in the 1980's when they were developing their "skinny minnie" MWD tool. It ended up being very instrumental for use in Horizontal Drilling in the USA and across the world.

Through a series of corporate buyouts and mergers to acquire their technologies, our division was sold off and I never heard from the guys that were in it.

Eastman Christinsen was another company.

If there is any oil production in your area, call a service company, such as Shlumberger, Halliburton, etc. They have all kinds of materials on their tools.
