I HAD A OCTOBER WEDDING AND WE HAD OUR RECEPTION IN A SIMILAR PLACE AND WE HAD A PRETTY TIGHT BUDGET BUT I WANTED A REAL CLASSY WEDDING LIKE MOST WOMEN DO AND I DIDN'T WANT IT TO LOOK GENERIC AND CHEAP SINCE THIS IS A REALLY BIG DAY.FIRST THING ASK THE LEGION IF THEY CAN RECOMMEND ANYONE TO YOU. NEXT THE MOST APPROPRIATE THING I THINK IS A BUFFET IT IS NOT AS EXPENSIVE AS YOU MAY THINK AND ALLOT OF PLACES ARE WILLING TO WORK WITH YOU. I HAD A OPEN BAR WELL BEER AND WINE ONLY I HAD BOUGHT A FEW KEGS FROM THE FACILITY AT THERE PRICE ALSO THE WINE I BOUGHT AT THERE COST AND THE CHAMPAGNE MY RECEPTION WAS GREAT EVERYONE LOVED THE FOOD AND IT WAS VERY TASTEFUL ALSO I HAD A CHOICE OF EITHER FISH,ROAST BEEF IN AU JUS,AND BAKED CHICKEN I HAD SEVERAL SIDES ALONG WITH SALAD AND ROLLS AND IT WAS SERIOUSLY CHEAP I PAID LIKE 800 BUCKS FOR 85 PEOPLE YOU HAVE TO LOOK AROUND ASK FRIENDS IF THEY CAN RECOMMEND ANYONE ETC SOMEONE THAT CAN COOK THIS IS REALLY WHAT WILL MAKE OR BREAK YOUR RECEPTION IS THE FOOD ,BOOZE,MUSIC THINK ABOUT IT THIS IS A CELEBRATION AND IF YOU HAVE TO CUT BACK ON SOME OTHER THINGS BE SURE TO ASK YOUR GUESTS WHAT THEY PREFER SO YOU CAN HAVE A IDEA OF WHO IS EATING WHAT AND YOU CAN GIVE IT TO THE PERSON MAKING YOUR FOOD TRUST ME IF DONE RIGHT IT CAN BE CHEAP BUT VERY TASTEFUL AT THE SAME TIME...CONGRATS AND GOOD LUCK

Taco bar, served with Spanish rice and beans.

In October, you could do chili or homemade soup. (This doesn't seem so appetizing in July, lol!) Serve with the **veggie platters** :-) and homemade bread or cornbread, or crackers.

I coordinated a wedding last August. We had a buffet with the usual stuff you've mentioned. Our fruit was in a carved watermelon, and we served it with sweet dipping sauce.

We made "red-neck weenies" as the main meat dish. Use the small smoked sausages. In a Crock Pot combine a jar of chili sauce (Not hot dog chili, this comes in a jar like ketchup) with a jar of grape jelly. Stir together and add the smoked sausages. This is always a hit whenever I serve it. In fact, every last one was gone before anything else, and we served several pounds of them!

Your local warehouse club will have a big section of party foods. They just have to be heated and served.

You will need someone to be in charge of getting the buffet ready while you are getting hitched. You might hire someone, maybe a mature high school or college kid or two. I had a couple of family members help me with finishing the prep and getting it to the tables just before the reception.

My husband and I were on a tight budget for our wedding too and didn't have much help for the food and we came up with a great idea and it costs about 150.00 to feed 100 people. Dinner rolls, pre-cooked and sliced ham from the local butcher, green beans and augratin potatoes the box mix (super easy to make). It was a total hit, classy and inexpensive and there was plenty of food for everyone. We put the ham in the oven on low before the wedding and the green bean and augratin potato's in roasters and the food was ready to serve by the time we got to the reception.

Let's see... we had the normal cheese platter of course, we had these little Japanese wraps my mom's friend made, a whole bar of different kinds of salads (fruit salads, etc), we had a fruit sculpture (normally cut out watermelons with grapes, strawberries, etc inside.. mine was rather large), i had my mom get me some chicken fingers b/c i love them, we had a chocolate fountain beside the fruit and some other stuff to dip in it (fountains are about $30 from walmart), i don't even know what else b/c i really didn't eat anything. but what my mom did was get all of her friends to tell her their favorite recipes they like cook and we picked what we liked, she went and bought the ingredients and got her friends to cook it all. we only had like 2 platters catered. it saved a lot of money.

if you have very close family mebers who like to cook, have them help you come up with ideas. it could be like a potluck dinner type thingy. my cousin had sandwiches, some pasta, some eggrolls (made by my late uncle's former girlfriends, who is from the philipines, and makes yummy food!) and other simpl, barbecue type foods at her wedding. if you know someone who makea a dish you love, ask if they could make it for you, or give you the recipe.

Don't forget the cake. Guests expect and want cake. Also, make sure that your guests know not to expect a full meal, so that they don't come hungry. Also, make sure your reception isn't long. A six hour reception is much too long for guests who are only eating finger food.
