Any month is a good month to visit Malaysia becouse our weather is about the same all year long (Rain, sun, rain, sun).
In 2007, Malaysia is having the Visit Malaysia 2007 event to celebrate its 50 years of independance. In September, the following big events are happening:
* Sarawak Regatta
1 September 2007 Until 2 September 2007
* Malaysian Motorcycle Grand Prix
7 September 2007 Until 9 September 2007
* KL International Tattoo Show
7 September 2007 Until 9 September 2007
* Penang International Lantern Festival
15 September 2007 Until 14 October 2007
Why not come towards the end of August instead? As the 31st of August is Malaysia's Independence Day, there'll be a parade, and a fireworks competition until the 30th.

Any time is always good to visit. Just that you cannot foretell what the weather will be like. Sept is nearing the end of the SW monsoon in Malaysia and southern Thailand. So the tropical storms can still be expected anytime of the day then.
Anyway, for Malaysia, if you head to the east coast, the weather will generally be drier, so the Club Med in Cherating is a good choice. Eveen Kuantan or Mersing or Tioman. The west coast areas normally bear the brunt of the monsoon.
As fo Thailand, this will depend on where you are. Southern area like Phuket will experience the same monsoon rain. You may be better off in the east like Koh Chang in Trat or even Pattaya. Or head to the north or northeast regions which will be drier.
So you still have options.

Yes.. Thailand and Malaysia monsoon and rainning season is end of the year.
If you are going to the east cost island of either Malaysia or Thailand. the best month to travel is within May to early september. most of the month is fine
