i tried playing through windows media but it says i need a codec, whereabouts can i find this or what other programs can i download that will play avi?

I use the freeware irfanview..it will play avi in addition to a multitude of other files and is a popular and very handy freeware. you may find the codec for media player at microsoft ..version 6 seems to play avi ..

....There is an player called BSPlayer (it`s the best player I`ve used so far), you can find it on www.Softpedia.com , also if that stil didn`t work, try getting the kLite Mega Codecs Pack, from the same site, and instal the codecs then the player, the codecs pack comes whit some players too, and that sould do the trick, guarantied...

u could burn the avi files into DVD discs and then watch it thru any media player that supports DVD..

just download the quick time from here
http://www.apple.com/quicktime/win.html
or play the file using real one player, and it will ask for a small download to paly the file.
