If we were to listen to what someone has told any of us and believe what has been said? Then that would make us the type of People who can't think for our own selves and rely on the words of other People, instead of finding out for our self.
One also has to remember, just like the rest of the 49 States, there are always prejudice in every State and Country for that matter. So, singling out a certain ethnicity based on what you have heard? Only makes propaganda believable, even if it's tainted with untruth and persuasion.
We believe what we want to believe, but the truth is only found in our own investigations and eagerness to know it first hand. As they say, "one bad apple spoils a whole bunch." Don't let that saying convince you of that.

This is the first I heard of it and I am a Hawaii resident. It's common to hear why Hawaiians don't like White people because it was the white people that took their land. But Hawaii is a pretty laid back state where I think has a little more racial tolerance than you would find else where int he U.S. We have ethnic jokes but it is our way of laughing at the stereotypes of the ehtnic groups we're poking fun at. The problem local people have when people come to visit or just move here is not their ethinicity but their attitudes. Don't come here and brag about how your state or your city is better than Hawaii. We don't care nor do we want to hear it. It is about taking the time and eagerness to learn about how culture...that is the whole reason to travel. To see other places and experience their culture...if you don't want to experience it why visit? It comes down to the "Ugly American" stereotype and can apply even in your own country! I never heard about any racist views that Hawaiians have towards African Americans so don't sweat that when you visit just be respectful of our culture!

This is a great example of something called "stereotyping". Hawaiians may be stereotyped as hating African Americans. African Americans can be stereotyped as criminals. Caucasians are stereotyped as racists; Asians may be stereotyped as short; Middle Easterners could be stereotyped as religious extremists. A stereotype is a certain view that society has of a particular group of people. A stereotype is a generalization that does not ever apply to the majority of the group.
Go to Hawaii, have fun, relax. Don't worry about prejudices or stereotypes.

THAT IS A FACT. and i know this b/c i have experienced living in Hawaii (O'ahu) specifically. They do not like ANYBODY WHO IS NOT HAWAIIAN OR JAPANESE. if you are not born & raised on the islands, consider yourself judged as an outsider. They hate Mainland so bad to the point where they will treat you like crap once they realize your from out of town. Hawaii is the most RACIST out of all other states. It is also one of the worse as far as DRUG ABUSE. Hawaii has got a HUGE problem with drugs, Crystal Meth to be exact which leads to car thefts, murders, bank robbers, thieves, etc. and people that commit those can get away with it because the law in Hawaii doesn't enforce it much just to protect people's family members. It doesn't make sense. There is so much crime that people who live here who are NOT really from here, but actually live here are starting to move back to Mainland. So, whatever you are hearing, it is TRUE. consider it a fact & if you decide to visit Hawaii, the 2 best islands would be Kauai & Maui. Those are more of an island vibe, not so bad. The most terrible island is O'AHU. If you visit, just make sure it's NOT that island, and be careful, just b/c people are racist in Hawaii, you can't let them get to you, this is a free country. When you visit, just IGNORE THEM and have fun!

The only people the Hawaiians are "prejudiced" against, if it can be called that, are rude people who expect to be treated as if they were somehow better than them, and who have no respect for nature. In fact, you will find that Popolos (african - americans, or literally "dark people) are more respected than whites, but still, if you show yourself to be a hauli (not sure of the spelling), as described above yes you might have problems. However in my opinion, any person who comes to Hawaii with a respectful attitude will find them to be very friendly generous people.

It's not african american people in particular but any "mainlander" apparently is prejudiced against. I too would like to live there some day because I like the idea of living somewhere tropical (but in the U.S.) and time after time I hear about how Hawaiians hate everyone who isn't Hawaiian.
Honestly though, who gives a damn what other people think? Do what you want to do and live where you want to. After awhile, people won't be able to tell you didn't live there before anyway once you get used to the culture and customs of Hawaii and you start to "fit in".

Hawaii is definitely not a prejudice place...I've lived here for my entire life (30 years!). Have you ever heard of the word "ALOHA". It has many meanings (hello, goodbye, welcome, etc.) but the word itself is a feeling in your heart. Many visitors come and never leave because they feel the aloha...however, like any other place there are individuals that spoil it for others (which is where you might have heard the negative info). But the bottom line is that Hawaii is paradise and one of the most beautiful places to live. You'd be surprised that there are many ethnicities represented here in Hawaii and we embrace all races and cultures. You should definitely come and visit Hawaii...you'll love it and wonder why you ever asked your question!!

I hope this is not true. The racial composition of Hawaii has a small number of Hawaiians and they are very nice. There are racial Hawaiians and people who live in Hawaii.

I don't know who told you that, but I grew up in Hawaii and we have friends that are African American. Anyone is welcomed in HAwaii as long as they don't walk around with their nose in the air thinking they are better than the locals.

Hawaii is very diverse as to racial and cultural aspects. Martin Luther King Day is celebrated big there. Hawaiians believe strongly in equality.
