Has anyone traveled as a tourist and by that I mean, without knowing or staying with a friend of family that lives in Israel, throughout Israel and Jordan. Or, if you do visit friends and family, then let me know what to expect. I want to travel this May/June.

Travel in Israel is very safe. As a matter of fact, it is safer than traveling in most Western cities.

The "hotspots" you hear about on the news are mostly in the West Bank and Gaza Strip areas. Cities like Tel Aviv, Haifa, Cesarea and others are very safe to be in. Jerusalem is very safe and you'll have no problems there.

I would not venture into the "hotspots" mentioned, as they are not in Israel, but on the borders. There is alot of contention in those areas, and not a good idea to travel there. Anywhere else in the country is beautiful, and you will be treated very well.

Have a nice trip!

In my experience Israel has been very safe stick to the well known places avoid Gaza and the West Bank. I've travelled by private car, hire car, train and minibus and never had any problems, in fact I was really suprised in Tel Aviv there was less security in the city than in London. However leave plenty of time for check in at Ben Gurian Airport.

If you are really concerned (which you shouldn't be) you could avoid public buses and local markets in towns in the morning and evening. I think you might be suprised just how normal life is in Tel Aviv for example.

Israel is indeed safe, except when the fanatical Arab terrorists choose to bombard it with rockets or missiles.

On the other hand, one would have to be insane to travel to Gaza, which has become a world center for Islamic terror, serving as a base for Hamas, Fatah, El Aksa Brigades, and lately even El Qaida. Now they have taken a respite from their attempts to wipe Israel off the map, and they are killing each other.

When Israel and the world realize that only a decisive victory of Israel over the Arabs who wish to destroy Israel--only then can there be peace and stability in the region.

You just need to plan each destination, and research or ask an Israeli about it before you go, in other words dont just jump on a public bus and not knowing where your going and never get off in an unknown place. Yes there are dangerous areas but around Israelis your are as safe as any where else in the world or more.

As long as you do not get near the West Bank or Gaza it is safe. I would also rent a car and stay away from bus rides in Tel Aviv, Netanya, or Jerusalem. Enjoy.
