Compared to oil which is produced by unstable countries and organizations around the world, what's the story on lithium for high voltage batteries for hybrids and EVs?

China is probably the worlds largest producer. Last time I checked they were the largest producer of magnesium, sodium and almost all the elements including rare earth metals.

Lithium oxide is not consumed in batteries. Fuel cells and gas engines consume fuel. Batteries do not consume anything. The chemical process is reversible.
