The said it was from the law firm of Joe Pescuto(sp?) about a deliquent account. Has anyone had a debt sent to a law firm insead of a collection agency?

There are law firms that specialize in debt collections. The take on debts from creditors for a percentage of what is collected. I assume that you are in the US. You can ask that they not contact you at work ( write down the name of the person you talk to, date, time ) and by law they have to quit calling you at work. You do not have to give them another number to call either. They try to make you nervous having a law firm ask for you at work. Also remember, they will try to talk you into giving them information. YOU DO NOT HAVE TO TELL THEM ANYTHING. They will try to scare you, insult you, threaten you. I went through a period when I had a lot of contact with debt collectors, they are some of the scummiest, slimeist, low life's that I have ever talked to. Good Luck to you.

As the first guy said they will say anything to scare you. You should send them a cease and desist letter because they have already broke the law. They are not allowed to say why they are calling and anything about your debt. Make sure you get return receipt if you mail them a cease and desist. Also take names and numbers time of day so that you can file against them if they continue to break the law after you send them a letter.

Call them back and tell them you only correspond in writing. When you get a letter from them that says "this is to collect a debt..." immediately "DV" by asking for validation of the account. Also, tell them to "cease and desist" contacting you; this will stop the calls at work and home.

yup. im on my 3rd one. last 2 got judgements. one of those garnished my wages for 3mos. till it was paid off. never heard any more from the 2nd one. im sure the interest is building and maybe they put a lien on my house. i dont know. get ahold of joe. tell him not to call you at work.
