We put him on antibiotics twice in the past month. For a little while the antibiotics seem to work. Then he starts that pattern again. Other than that, he eats and drinks water plenty and is reasonably active. Please, serious answers only. Thanks everyone.

It could be diabetes, or stones. But if you have been seeing a vet, they may have already done tests for that. Check with your vet if they haven't. At that age, it could be an incontinence problem, and if that is the case, there is medication that your vet can give you. Dogs are also sensitive to different stresses in their and your life. Or any changes. Have you moved, had children, older children leave the "nest" or family issues going on, gotten or lost another pet?
Are you cleaning the spots with a good enzyme cleaner? This could have started with just an accident, and blossomed into a pattern because he smells his scent, and thinks it is all right to go there. Natures Miracle works well, but there are other enzyme cleaners out there. Check your local pet store. My only other comment or suggestion is, since he is a Small dog, there are "belly bands" that you can buy to protect your home, They are like cummerbunds that wrap around the dogs belly. You put a disposable pad inside, which absorbs the urine and protects your floors, furniture and rugs. It is not a cure per say, but it may help with a behavior issue.

Hi:
I'm assuming since he was on antibiotics twice that you obviously have seen the vet. Often times if it's a bladder infection, blood will show up in the urine. If it's incontinence, that's usually just a matter of leaking while the dog is sleeping, not actually emptying the bladder. One thing I would be concerned about is "diabetes". It's also possible that he just needs to go outside a little more which is common for old dogs.

I would talk to your vet about the possibility of diabetes.

Good luck.

Are you home to let him out during the day? I seriously doubt that any animal could withstand holding their pee inside a home or apartment for several years ever day go without some time of problem with incontinence. And I am being very serious.

Also have him checked for a bladder stone. My Aunt's Terrier did the same thing. They finally did an X-ray on it and the stone showed up, it was too small for the Vet to feel it in the bladder. Bit was fine after the surgery.
