Anyone have any ideas how to set up the tables at a cocktail & h'doureve wedding reception. Usually they are set with plates and silverware, etc for a dinner. We have centerpieces and there will be table cloths, but do we leave the table empty? If anyone can think of something to put on the table to make it look not so stark and empty I'd appreciate feedback. Sprinkling confetti is the only thing I've come up with. Thanks.

Don't do confetti, the reception site will hate you and they probably don't allow it.

A cocktail reception is about mingling. Put conversation starters on the tables. On one, put pictures of you and your groom as a child. On another, wedding pictures of your grandparents, great grandparents.

Or, put sweets on the tables for guests to nibble on while they're drinking their cocktails.

You haven't stated whether you'll be having an "open" bar or not. If you'll be having centerpieces on top of tablecloths, then setting 3 candles on the tables (1 as part of the centerpiece and one at each end of the table with a smaller version of the centerpiece). The confetti idea is also good or use the long tinsel to snake along the top of the tables. Also, you could put a single use camera or two on each table for your guests to use; be sure to number these so that you know if any of them are taken by any guests. Hope some of these ideas help! Congrats and Good luck!

I've seen several cocktail receptions that were wonderful! Go with smaller tables if possible. If that's not possible, and as there will not be a meal served, maybe some larger wedding favors would be an idea. Highball glasses engraved with your names and the date of the wedding, would be appropriate!

Also, if there are some hors deouvres that are appropriate with the cocktails your serving, you could place some bowls of them on the table to take up more space.
Use plenty of candles if you can and space them out along with small glasses with flower blooms resting in water, around a large and low lying centerpiece.
If you use a contrasting table runner or draped fabric on top of the large table cloth, it would add some more visual interest.
Try long strips of curling ribbon tossed around the table, it kinda has that New Years Eve festive look.
I hope this helps you, I've got tons of ideas!

I JUST THOUGHT OF SOMETHING YOU CAN MAKE LITTLE FAVORS OUT OF MARTINI, BEER, WINE, GLASSES ETC SINCE YOU ARE HAVING A COCKTAIL TYPE OF RECEPTION YOU CAN PUT DIFFRENT THINGS IN THEM WHAT EVER YOU DECIDED ON AND PUT LIKE SOME SMALLER CANDLES AROUND THE TABLE AS WELL MY OPINION I WOULD NOT MAKE THE TABLES SMALLER I WOULD KEEP LARGER TABLES LIKE 10 TO A TABLE SO EVERYONE CAN FEEL INCLUDED AND CAMERA'S YOU CAN GET A BUNCH ON EBAY AND THEY WILL EVEN PUT YOUR NAMES AND THE DATE AND STUFF...GOOD LUCK

confetti works but can be a little messy. try going to craft stores to get ideas. or use rose pedals, that works as well. have the plates and silverware because you know ppl will be using it for sure.

You could use polished stones or glass in your wedding color, sprinkle around similar to confetti. Use lots of candles.
