XP wasnt all that great of an upgrade from WIN2000, you reallly should have checked your computers ability to use vista before installing it, the sound is probally just a sign of whats to come. Back up all your personal data and get a copy of windows 2000 and install it. Its the best OS out unless you have a super nice new computer.

The best advice to someone who has no experience in PC maintnace or troubleshooting is to backup data weekly, and create a power user account and stay logged off of the ADMIN account and only do to your computer what the power user is alloud. If you get a message saying you dont have the right to do something, its because it could cause problems.

Your sound drivers probably arent compatible with Vista. There may be new drivers out that will support it but thats something your going to have to check out for yourself since you made the dumb mistake of going with Vista when it first came out..
