Matthew
5:27 Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou
shalt not commit adultery:
5:28 But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to
lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his
heart.
5:29 And if thy right eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast
[it] from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy
members should perish, and not [that] thy whole body should be
cast into hell.
5:30 And if thy right hand offend thee, cut it off, and cast
[it] from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy
members should perish, and not [that] thy whole body should be
cast into hell.

Matthew is from the New testament for all those Christians who haven't really checked out their sacred book.

You must know that several men wrote the Bible in a span of many years.

Most "books" in the old and new testaments are writen with clearer meaning than that part of Matthew. The man (his name was not revealed) who was sitting under an olive tree writing The Book of Matthew said to himself, "How can I scare those folks in the 21st century to be better than they are?" With that he took a drink of cool water from the jug and as he did he saw this really sexxy girl goat herder. "I had better close my eyes or I will be getting excited," he continued.

I won't mention what his right hand began to do.

Suddenly he heard his mother's voice in his memory, "Son, straighten up and stop having bad ideas taking charge of your mortal body."

"The only way I can control my eye is to pluck it out and I aint gonna do that," our writer said. "But if I tell those so-called modern people in the 21st century that they should consider plucking out the offending eye, maybe they will get my meaning."

So, after scribbling down 5:27 and 5:28 and then taking another gulp of cool water, he wrote 5:29.

Suddenly, seeing what his right hand was doing, our writer said, "No reason I don't encourage them to stop doing that also when they see a sexxy woman so I will write 5:30 also and I hope they get the message loud and clear."

Our writer was lucky that he was under that olive tree and no one was watching him or he might have been stoned for doing some naughty thing.

Not sure about the installment plan, but I understand what you mean. It really should be the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth. I have found that people professing Christianity in the US are not strong enough in their faith to accept the concept of this Truth from the Word. And especially when it comes to money.

Jesus was illustrating the difficulty of man trying to obey the law by his own efforts. Demobilising the offending part would not be a solution either. Jesus was pointing the way to grace and truth under the New Covenant (NC) to have victory over the law of Moses under the Old Covenant (OC). Under OC we earn righteousness by our own obedience to the law and are punished for our disobedience. Under the NC we have God's righteousness in Christ by simply accepting Jesus as our Lord and Savior. Under OC we do to be righteous. Under NC we believe to be righteous. As we have been given the abundance of God's grace and His gift of righteousness we can reign in life (Rom 5:17). Sin cannot rule us as we are under grace and not under the law (Rom 6:14). There is no instalment that we need to pay except to believe and live in faith. God has already provided us His grace and His righteousness for us to conquer sin. Jesus has on the cross made provision for all our needs and blessings from God. Christians are called believers because when they believe they shall suceed and receive. God gives us everything we need if we believe and act in faith.

its no installment plan...
for the matthew5:29-30

the meaning ins't literal...basically if something in your life causes your relationship with God or with another person to take a turn for the worse, try and take that thing that hinders you..it doesn't meet to cut off your hand or to pluck out your eyes literally..there's a word for it because examples like that are given today...i just can't think of the word now

You are puffed up and understand nothing.
"And in him you were also circumcised with a circumcision made without hands, in the removal of the body of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ"

Perhaps because all of those quotes are old testement. The old testement was voided when Jesus died for our sins. We still should try and listen to thier lessons, but they are not the law anymore.
