I'm talking about if your hair is blonde and you dye the bottom layers red or something like that. Is there a specific name for it?

its called lowlights but you would have to be specific at the salon to let them know if you wanted red streaks on the bottom layers of your hair or if you want the whole base of your head dyed red. i had the whole bottom of my hair dyed black with platinum blonde hair everywhere else and "peek-a-boo" black highlights around the front and back. it looked really cool! hope this helped :)

If you dye the bottom layers of your hair a darker color they call it low lighting. It makes your hair look thicker and adds depth. Most often the darker color is weaved into the rest of your hair in multiple thin streaks. If you dye large sections of your hair I believe the technique is called chunking. It may also be called panelling.

Hope that helped....
