hikes, board games, scavanger hunts, food fight...use popcorn its easier to vaccuum up, star of the week....each memebr gets a full week...this will take a month...day 1 everyone makes a poster of different things that they know the star likes, dislikes, reminds them of the person, writes little personal messages, memories, day 2, the star gets thier favorite dinner cooked by the rest of the family and during dinner the star gets to tell about memories, or thier day, or their hopes and dreams for the future, day 3 the star has everything done for them all day, gets a compliment from everyone as many compliments any one wants to give during the day, Day 4 have a roast for the star during dinner...good natured ribbing, and day 5 the star is given the opportunity to choose whats for dinner, whats on TV, or to play a game...have a cake after dinner but instead of happy birthday it will say We Love you or You Rock...this will help build self esteem, humility, respect, awareness, and a close family. Come up with your own "star recognition" ideas for each day of the week but I think it is a positive family activity

Anything that you do with your kids, and you are in a GOOD MOOD and concentrate on them, will be FUN for them, and remember that they can do the same activity days on end and not get bored like you will be. Anyway, here are some things we do:
--board games and card games
--play dominoes then build little forts and use a die to knock each other's down
--we play hide 'n' seek like nobody's business, and my kids are in junior high
--check out a game book from the library and change the games to stuff that will work for you
--make paper airplanes
--fly kites
--find a really exciting series of books and read them aloud at night
--go sit in the library or Barnes and Noble and read
--window shop
--my kids find hardware stores SO interesting, if you pause and explain some of the things
--pick up trash at a local park
--make cards for people [thank you cards for teachers, get well cards for relatives]
--play tennis, play catch, pitch a ball to them so they can bat it, try different ways of kicking a football [when no one is watching], play frisbee, throw rocks in a pond, take walks, go to the library and check out a book on local trees/plants/birds then go on walks to identify things you see
--cook together
--do some sort of landscaping or even just plant a few flowers
--put on some music and dance
--play follow the leader
--do aerobics and take turns leading
--get some guns at the dollar store that shoot foam balls and chase each other around, or if you don't like shooting each other with foam balls, set up cans for target practice
--get some of those little wooden or ceramic things at walmart to paint
--put together puzzles
--check out small museums because many of them are free; plus check with larger museums and zoos because many of them have free or reduced admission days
--invite other kids over to play and have planned games; tell them it's a play day and tehy need to bring a snack to share

picnics, musesums, hiking, bicycling, football, tennis, make kites to fly. basketball, watching movies and have a discussion after movie. going to the beach. go for a walk, have one person tell what direction then have another tell which way to go and so on, to see if you can get lost. I did that with my bf and my daughter it was a lot of fun, plus we talked about a lot of things like birds we'd seen etc. along the way. It was an adventure.
It was great.

look for on-line craft ideas, camp-out in the living room, pic-nic, go fishing, go out on a nice night and lie on a blanket and look at stars, in the daytime look for cloud pictures [clouds that look like animals and such], hot chocolate and smores, watch a family movie and have popcorn, search for 4 leaf clovers
