Hey Christians: you don't say "he is atheist," you say "he is AN atheist!"?

Question

Whenever someone says "you're atheist," or "he is atheist", or "how long have you been atheist," etc., that's a dead giveaway that they're some backwater, toothless fire-and-brimstone evolutionary hiccup. Why do Christians always forget the "an" when talking about AN atheist?

You fools, if someone is an atheist, you say "he (or she) is an atheist!", NOT "he (or she) is atheist!"

I believe that the problem arises because Christian can be used as both a noun and an adjective so people are in that habit not realizing that atheist is not also an adjective.

Edit: Upon further research I did find one or two dictionaries that list atheist as an adjective but by far the majority listed atheist only as a noun with atheistic as the adjective form.

Lady, please don't call yourself an atheist. I'm afraid people will think I'm like you! The most stupid insult anyone can hurl on line has got to be about spelling or grammar. Since the invention of word processing software, I think everyone could a refresher course in English, and I'm sure you're not perfect either.

I have friends and family that are Christians. All the Christians I work with and hang out with are very kind, smart people. That's a Hell of a lot more than I can say for you.

funny things is some of you so called atheist dont even say it right. i have seen many atheist say i am atheist or you are atheist. and not add the an and say i am an atheist or you are an atheist. just like most of say he is christian rather then he is a christian.

that question should have been for everyone in general. christians are humans too and we make mistakes just as well as your fellow atheist do as well. if anything you should be more upset with your fellow atheist who dont say it right being they of all people should know how to correctly say you are an atheist.

I hope you're not referring to the Christians like me who go against the people of our own faith & tell them to leave the atheists alone. By the way if someone who says they're atheist, obviously they are judging you which I also would never do

Rissa, settle down and be nice. While you are correct in the way "Atheist" should be grammatically expressed, there is no need to call *all* Christians down for improper usage. First, all of them don't use the term improperly, and second, all improper usages are not from Christians ..... and third, I've heard people say, "he's Christian" (instead of "he is A Christian). Now, just mind your manners, girl.
